I think that’s something that a lot of people are missing or misreading about this situation.
On the outside there is a lot of calling for the Americans to step back and de-escalate but the problem is the Iranians aren’t backing down and there’s no signs that they’d actually open up the Strait again in the near term. This creates a pressure on everyone in the “West” to get the strait back open again. Since there’s no reliable way to get back to that with de-escalation, in the background a lot of countries are telling Trump to push through and finish the job.
You already see that with Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia saying that they can’t allow the regime in Iran to be able to continue with the power to control the Strait. They don’t want the war to stop because if it stops now then they’re at the mercy of the Iranian’s. The lots have been cast and there’s no way back now.
