    As a Brit…deeply offensive too.

Your temo-king needs to be deposed and undergo the same treatment as certain members of the Royal family here too.

Get out for the No King’s guys. Good luck.

The issue is that “safety” in America is now entirely dependent on your zip code and which news channel you watch. We’ve traded a shared sense of reality for a constant state of hyper-vigilance. It feels less like a unified country and more like fifty different social experiments running at the same time, and nobody is happy with the results

  3. It’s more accurate to say the U.S. has become a dangerous nation.

I wish the media wasn’t so inaccurate in using “America”. It’s an entire continent, and the U.S. is only part of it.

Its always been an Rogue nation, ask the Native Americans or the Africans who were kidnapped for the transatlantic slave trade, or Mexico when it lost half its nation to the imperialist lust of the Americans, or Vietnam, or Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Chile, or Cuba, or Lybia.

  5. Has become implies it happened in the past at some point. I don’t think most Americans realise how far back in the past the rest of the world thinks it happened.

  6. I’ve never in my life felt as hopeless as I do now. I feel sick every single day. I distrust/abhor my fellow man.

It doesn’t have to be like this.

You guys literally have Proud Boys (a terrorist organization in Canada) in ICE terrorizing citizens and peaceful protesters.

  8. It will really take like 20 years of compromise and negotiation to regain the trust it lost, and even then some guarantees a Trump cannot destroy the agreements and pacts

  9. It shows that you should never a person, a group, an organization, or a nation too much power. It does not matter how benevolent they initially seem.

And the New York Times, who for the last ten years have completely abdicated their responsibilities as journalists, are a major reason why.

  11. The fall from grace is astounding to watch. Not that they were ever the good guys they claimed/believed themselves to be.

On that note, if you could stop putting out BS Hollywood movies with Mark Wahlberg being an all American hero yet again we’d all be grateful. You guys need to face the truth of who you really are, warts and all.

America has always been a dangerous nation. Nations, aka organized groups of homo sapiens, are inherently dangerous. Give them wide berth, as you would any other thief, murderer, or sheep killing dog.

Trump didn’t show up out of nowhere.

This isn’t a new phenomenon; it just got turbocharged in the wake of 9-11.

  14. “Has become” lol

This is like the SNL skit where the white liberals are all “What? America is Racist?” after Trump got elected, while black folks sit back chuckling to themselves about the naive as shit white liberals.

  15. We’ve been dangerous, we’re just done pretending to be the good guy now. So many of the things the Trump admin is doing is not the first time it’s been done. He is doing at a multi factor scale and right in from of everyone without shame, and it’s finally forcing many to grapple with the fact that this is who we are.

  16. Failing to be honest and accountable with themselves about their own atrocities is what has led them to goose set their way into Fascism.

They have used Politicking and lies to placate their populous and history books into a fantasy that ignores their wrongdoing and paints them as heroes to the point that they no longer recognize true accounts of their history and act confused at how they got to this point instead of acknowledging the clear steps that led to an inevitable conclusion.

  17. What about building with the Democrats- they seem to be a little more active lately ?

  18. Does everyone here have a NYT subscription? Or are do you all just comment on the headline?

All these comments and not a single link to a non paywalled version.

Hundreds of thousands of dead and millions of lives directly and indirectly destroyed around the world suggests it has been one for a long time.

Where you been? USA has been a predator nation since killing Natives.

Who is the only country that used nuclear weapons? TWICE.

  21. Become? We killed 5.5 million in the war on terror and over 37 million with sanctions since 1976. Just because the public is now facing consequences for our actions doesnt suddenly mean we are any more violent than we have been. As Aimé Césaire put it, we have always been a sick nation.
