  1. Comparing this guy to the Koch brothers and their network is literally comparing $9 million to multiple BILLIONS…

That being said, I commend my fellow data addict to for the amount of time and effort they put into this web of info. I just don’t think it’s as useful or has a point beyond going. Huh, interesting.

People have the right to their opinions and to express them. To say otherwise is to be like Russia and North Korea… Just because you don’t like that he supports the Conservatives doesn’t mean he should have less rights than anyone else.

    This is good.

This is the kind of thing I’d like to see about how money influences (or tries to buy influence on) Canadian politics.

    Good stuff!

That being said, I’m still not seeing here the cash directly into the hands of politicos for delivered policy outcomes. I see the usual sorts of politicking and influence operations by 3rd parties that are a pretty normal part of Canuck politics.

I’m not seeing billionaires buying outcomes or buying politicos in short.

I mean if Gwynn’s been at this since 2005 and we just had a decade of Trudeau and carbon taxes, just how successful has he been exactly? I suppose he got PP onside and to undercut PP, Carney axed the tax, but jeez, that’s taken a little while and in the meantime Trudeau stopped him dead in his tracks. Also Harper didn’t do a whole lot for him either, in his failure to get pipelines built.

Like I’m not seeing all that much power and influence here as a result of the princely sum of $9.5 million dollars spent.

People still worry about climate change, even though its on the backburner for now but that will change when enough towns and cities burn down as occurs regularly, or when your insurance rates go too high, or when you can’t breathe all summer due to the smoke. Those impacts aren’t going away and they will affect the voting decisions of the many a whole lot more than than what Morgan is funding and politicos know it. Especially when their houses are burning to the ground too.

ETA: I guess to put it in perspective, Musk spent 250 million in one year on Trump’s campaign and got to reshape U.S. government personally.

Morgan spent $9.5 million over 20 years and has gotten, eh, not exactly sure what, but at least 19 years of not much of anything and at least 10 years of abject failure for his money.

In short, I’m not too worried that this indicates that Canadian democracy is at risk from monied interests. If it were, well, things should be a lot different than they are, but they aren’t. Seems like the system still works despite money being deployed to serve some special interests. Maybe I’m wrong…
