Alberta fighting hard to avoid paying a living wage across every sector.

Not that a minimum wage is a living wage. Calgary is currently at $26.50 an hour. We have essential services that are making less than that.

You realise you’re just encouraging more business to immigrate more people to Canada right?

It’s also generally cheaper to live in Alberta compared to British Columbia.

Alberta’s minimum wage would still be $10 if the ANDP hadn’t miraculously won in 2015 and the only way it ever goes up again is if they miraculously win another election.

  5. The cost of housing isn’t comparable in the slightest between the two provinces.

I’m moving from BC to Alberta because I don’t believe your life savings should be in your home. For the same price, it’s like do I want a detached house in Calgary or a condo 3-4 cities AWAY from Vancouver?

People think increasing minimum wage makes things affordable lol, cost of goods/survival increases proportionately to minimum wage, then you wonder why you got less for $100 of groceries.

    It’s not the answer.

Alberta isn’t looking to add PST to all medical and home improvement services. That 40 cent an hour increase won’t make a difference soon enough.

The high minimum wage is causing a lot of wage compression and squeezing out entry level workers. But at the same time the high cost of living means people do need a wmgood wage to survive. It’s a vicious cycle that BC is going to have a tough time tackling, particularly since it’s a provincial wide minimum wage but there are significantly different economic circumstances in different parts of the province.
