In her painfully cringe way, she’s 1) trying to get out in front of some bad news that she’s been told to expect, 2) shamefully and disgustingly putting the onus back on the victims to testify again, but in public, and 3) preemptively insulating herself and the other perpetrators by (2). I have occasionally fallen into the algorithm trap of thinking that a topic I’m interested in is more broadly popular than it is. You know the “everyone’s talking about xyz” phenomenon when hardly anyone is talking about xyz — you’re just fully plugged into xyz discourse.
Makes me wonder if Melania has been algorithm-stomped into thinking everyone is talking about her. So she felt like she had to address this torrent of speculation and discourse about *her*. But her estimation of how much people actually give a shit about her was way off, so it ended up feeling weird and mismatched with reality.

The entire conservative media machine he’s about juggling outrages. Outrages to keep their base active and outrages to keep the Left running in several directions at once. It’s the most obvious, and at this point extremely tired pattern of behaviour. But they control almost all of the media, and so articles like this continue to be posted on Reddit and it continues to work, as everyone is so easily baited into some facile emotional response.
