With all due respect, whilst especially the Vance visit did not help, the core reasons were far more complex, wider, and unrelated to Trump regime. The Putin relationship did far more damage but the economic realities and the contradiction between propaganda vs reality alienated many even in his core base. This was not a simple equation.

The only thing that Vances’ visit accomplished is confirming the deep connection between all the Russian backed regimes and political movements in the west, as well as their loyalty to Kremlin.
In other words, Donald Trumps election is not an isolated event. It is not an organic product of US society, politics or media. Trump’s regime is a result of a Russian propaganda campaign that focuses on manipulation of public opinion through social media which began even before 2016. This campaign turned social media into a cess pool of misinformation that resulted in pro Russian political movements gaining power in many countries in the west.
From Orban in Hungary, Fico in Slovakia, across Farage in Britain, AfD in Germany and Le Pen in France – and many more – these are all political movements that are either directly financed by Russia (such as Le Pen getting loans from Russian banks) or owe their popularity to Russian social media campaign.
An example of this are Trump supporting influencers and podcasters, like Tim Pool and Benny Johnson, who were uncovered to be financed by Russia to spread Kremlin’s narrative in the US. Likewise, the neo nazi AfD in Germany gains its followers primarily through social media, while it’s political agenda revolves around closer cooperation with Kremlin and cutting aid to Ukraine.
The latest example of the effectiveness of Russian social media campaign comes from Romania. The Romanian constitutional court abolished their presidential elections because the investigation by Romanian secret services uncovered that the candidate who won the most votes – a prorussian politician who didn’t belong to any political party and who ran his campaign almost entirely on tiktok and facebook – won the elections because of Russian interference and support primarily through fake accounts on social media.
This is what decides our elections, from US to nearly every nation in the EU. And until we counter this propaganda, that grips the most vulnerable parts of our societies, things will not change.

Similar outcome in Australia for our last Fed election in 2025, the opposition candidate ran headfirst into ‘full blown Trumpism’ and then suffered the greatest electoral loss in our history, losing his own seat in the process. It was glorious to watch it unfold.
