Former President Barack Obama rubbed the Trump administration’s nose in its own failure in the wake of the Hungarian election.

President Donald Trump dispatched Vice President JD Vance to Europe to whip up support for autocrat Viktor Orbán, whose 16 years in power came to an end with a landslide victory for rival Péter Magyar on Sunday.

“The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world,” Obama wrote in the wake of Vance’s mission to central Europe. “Most of all, it’s a testament to the resilience and determination of the Hungarian people—and a reminder to all of us to keep striving for fairness, equality and the rule of law.”

Apparently the Hungarian people were moved by Vance’s *stunning* charisma.

After they all covered their couches, of course.

Why do the billionaires such as Thiel bankroll Vance’s political career? What do they see in Vance?

  4. Heimerdingerdonger on

Clickbait Garbage. Obama did not mention JD in his tweet. Made up connection.

  5. I really don’t understand why Reddit allows links from thedailybest. Literally every headline is clickbait, including this one. Such garbage.

  6. “JD. Vance sitting on stage with Orbán, he said Hungary had faced, “one of the worst examples of foreign election interference that I have ever seen or ever even read about… because they hate this guy,” pointing at Orbán.

He added that the“interference that’s come from the bureaucracy in Brussels has been truly disgraceful.”

And Vance didn’t even notice the irony?

  7. The Republicans hate Obamas successes so much. They hate he is articulate and smart. They wanted nothing more than a man of color to fail so they could say only white men can lead. They fight everyday to tarnish is mostly spotless tenure.

He didn’t say anything about JD Vance. Such a misleading headline. I should have known Obama was too classy to do anything of the kind.

    His comment:
“The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world,” Obama wrote in the wake of Vance’s mission to central Europe. “Most of all, it’s a testament to the resilience and determination of the Hungarian people—and a reminder to all of us to keep striving for fairness, equality and the rule of law.”

Obama didn’t even have to shout. He just used that calm, professorial tone to point out that Vance’s current positions directly contradict everything he wrote in the book that made him famous

The Daily Beast headlines are out of control. Times are wild enough. No need for exaggeration.

Can we seriously get daily beast banned here? It’s uninformative, sensationalist drivel that provides no useful real-world information. It’s liberal fox in writing. Plus they put their sensationalist nonsense behind a paywall and then advertise it on this sub

  14. ShortBrownAndUgly on

Should the sub ban paywalled articles? Or should they at least require the OP to add a summary? What is the point

My takeaway is that I hope the american people realize that a deranged autocrat can be voted out of office even after he has capture the state’s media, courts, and judiciary; and had the autocratic leaders of two of the most powerful nations on the planet backing him.

  16. Don’t share this website please. It’s clearly satire. It’s a waste of valuable real estate.

  17. The only people humiliated are people who actually engage with The Daily Beast as if it is nothing other than a trash propaganda tabloid

  18. Twisting the knife? Give it a rest, Daily Beast. The expression implies Obama played a role in humiliating Vance in the first place.

  19. The thing is this model of “engagement” is OLD. Newspapers have always “pumped up” the headline to get you to buy the paper. Then it was “If it bleeds, it leads” for TV news.

Pick the worst thing that happens that day, make the most lurid interpretation of the circumstances and run with that.

Click bait titles are the logical evolution.

  20. i-dontlikeyou on

He didn’t mention him at all. This is all just the usual drama media is trying to stir for clicks.

There’s no greater enemy of insincere, hypocritical Christians *and* corrupt capitalists than President Trump. President Trump and JD Vance are bringing their corruption right out into the open in full flower. It’s like the blossoming of the Corpse flower which induces people to wish they were dead rather than be forced to breathe in it’s hideous stench.

  22. Vance just loves overweight autocrats or autocrat wannabes.

But seriously the Trump endorsement “kiss of death” has been somewhat interesting. Seemed to impact Canada as well. Ironically as Trump complains any time someone outside makes a statement but sent Vance for the double failure.

  23. tragicallyohio on

Can we please ban The Daily Beast? Obama did not mention Vance at all in any publicly available comment that I have seen.

  24. Optimal_Beyond_1600 on

That celebrating another country exercising democracy is considered “twisting the knife” tells you just about everything you need to know about this administration

  25. Mods, please stop allowing daily beast to be posted here. It is incredibly sensationalist. I’m tired of seeing headlines with “slammed,” “destroyed,” etc
