People other than tech bros overwhelmingly ***hate*** AI and the way the tech companies overtly disdain humans and disdain humanity in search of their artificial dream of perfection. We can see that the tech billionaires *want* to replace humans with AI. AI will never argue with them or tell them they’re wrong. Humans have minds and souls that the billionaires cannot take, which is why they hate humans and would rather have AI.

You have to ask – what is in it for these city council members? Why would they ever vote yes?

Holy shit, I actually have some major respect for the good people of Festus, Missouri. They’re so pissed off by this deal that they not only ousted four of their city councilmembers, but are gathering signatures for a recall of the remaining councilmembers and the mayor, PLUS a lawsuit against the city government and the construction company that would be building the data center.
They are not pulling ANY punches. That’s the kind of righteous anger this country needs right now.

I thought it would be Independence. We just voted out a city councilman and the councilwoman who was ruining for mayor got beat by a union rep with no political experience and the biggest factor was the data center they want to put in. Literally the candidates backed by the stop the data center group swept the election.

This is the good work that will save the people and destroy these big corporations.

Good! This is why local elections matter. And Missouri, take note that Governor Mike Kehoe was happy to help push this data center through for the city council.

A message needs to be sent. When people in these communities say no, maybe the leadership will start to listen or face the same fate. Enough is enough. Power to the people.

They likely don’t care and walked away with fat checks that are off the books. City councils do shit like this all over the country. Corrupt af

This entire thread reminds me of Californians pissed about rolling grid failure on the 1990s caused by all the pushback against building out the grid. More self inflicted bullshit from people who don’t understand what data centers actually do beyond run LLMs.

If you ever go to Festus, there’s a toy/game store called Neat Stuff and Things. Best toy store I’ve ever been to
