Family of trans college student flees Idaho after state passes draconian anti-trans law. Michael Devitt told his patients he’s closing his practice because his daughter could be thrown in jail for using the restroom.

The GOP’s radical and bigoted ideology is almost identical to that of the Iranian regime. Part of why I still find it weird that the GOP hates Iran so much. They have *so much* in common.

>“Obviously, this law is a disaster for families like ours,” Michael Devitt, the father of 20-year-old Eve, wrote in a letter notifying his patients that his physical therapy practice would be shutting down. “We can no longer take a road trip across our beloved state, or even enjoy a family night out at a restaurant, or a movie, without running the risk of Eve being charged and sent to a prison merely for using the facilities.”

>The law he’s referring to is H.B. 752, which Gov. Brad Little (R) signed into law on March 31, the Trans Day of Visibility. The hostile law makes it a criminal offense for trans people to use the restroom that aligns with their gender identity, even in private businesses. Multiple offenses could get a trans person life in prison.

Christian nationalists will see this and cheer, because they hate science, doctors, facts, logic, and anything that points out the contradictions in their religion.

Christian nationalists when faced with cognitive dissonance love to lash out and kill the nonbelievers, because they would rather kill all the infidels off than actually try to grow in understanding. They view doubt and deconstruction as dirty words, because they think that means becoming (gasp) apostate. So, they instead of trying to grow through doubt and questioning choose to commit Spanish Inquisitions on the rest of the world.

What’s the difference between the GOP & The Taliban? Nothing. They’re both theocratic fascists of the same coin.

I’d prefer going to the bathroom with a trans than an in the closet Republican who hates himself.

Statistically it’s FAR more likely a Republican assaults you in a bathroom than a transgender person. We should start passing laws banning them from using facilities for public safety.

I did a report on Idaho in 2nd grade. I’ve never been but I ‘very re-used it several times with updates. This state was always problematic but it has just gotten worse over time. Especially as the farm money has come in. When the groundwater is exhausted & the agriculture fails it will be…something.

For such a beautiful state, Idaho has some damn ugly inhabitants.

If I was a business in Idaho, I would put in gender neutral bathrooms. Either, **everyone or no one** could use them because their birth certificate doesn’t match the gender of the bathroom.

I wonder if these states are thinking of the consequences of losing residents? Tax dollars will go down, corporations will likely buy these houses, job creation loss, work force losses… etc. The states who remain open and welcoming will see a boom as a result

Yet another reminder that Republicans are all human garbage. Every single one.

The lawsuits against this cruelty will hopefully help the single most at-risk minority recover and survive, in time.

How do they even expect to enforce something like that? Are they going to ask every single person walking into a public restroom to show their genitals?
