I’d settle with healthcare + prosecuting currupt actors currently running things

  2. Not a matter of “figuring out,” it’s a matter of will. Obama had a golden opportunity to get it done but he failed the people because he didn’t want to fight the insurance industry

  3. It’s not up to the president.

Statements like this do nothing to help the cause. Americans need to understand if they want systemic change, they must vote in a completely new CONGRESS.

Walz should know better than this.

  4. Mindless_Listen7622 on

Where are the Democratic think tanks that could be figuring this out well before a Democratic majority exists? It’s Congress that will need to write and pass the massive legislative package.

  5. Funny, I criticized the internal DNC election candidates over this not even a year ago and I got flamed by party sycophants saying I shouldn’t work to divide the party over a wedge issue

A fucking wedge issue. The people arguing that UHC is a wedge issue and *not a fucking party plank* should be thrown into the trash.

  6. I don’t know about The Hill’s political leaning, but I feel like the quote they pulled for that headline misses the forest for the trees…

The real pull from what Walz said is this:

    >”…it has to be about not holding power for the sake of holding power, it has to be about passing things,”

He’s not talking specifically about universal health care. He’s talking about actually committing to true progressive action when progressives take back control of the government.

And he’s damn right about that. Sitting on their hands just isn’t good enough anymore.

  7. >it has to be about not holding power for the sake of holding power, it has to be about passing things

well, at least one of them can admit it. if you wanted to easily summarize why i left the DNC, it’s that right there. at least i know i’m not crazy, cuz there’s NO WAY you can allude to all these things for decades and just not do them. they lost me, but as i was just saying earlier, their best chance at winning, will be appeasing the actual progressives. there’s no moderates left in the party other than the establishment itself.

Nah, Americans seem very happy paying the same tax rate as nations with universal healthcare and funding wars with Israel instead

  9. DeLoresDelorean on

If they are not going to make republicans responsible for the blatant corruption and rampant criminality, and instead they choose to pose next to trump for “unity” or whatever, nothing will change.

  10. The-Questcoast on

But first there needs to be criminal prosecution of the current administration…and NOT two years into their term!

  11. MicroSofty88 on

That would be great, but I’d take a stable growing economy, campaign finance reform and no wars tbh.

  12. TheDukeofArgyll on

Dems better figure out how to give the American people something or they are cooked.

  13. It’s 2026 right now. Let’s assume the midterms go ok but not as well as we hope. What’s the fucking game plan?

  14. How about reversing citizens united, term limits, ranked choice nation wide, and enforce ethics on Supreme court.

  15. TheFalconKid on

Just a heads up, the top leading contenders Harris, Newsom, and Buttigeig have no plans for universal healthcare.

  16. LostInSpace-2245 on

The DEM leadership better forget bipartisan efforts like dems did for the ACA and resulted in crap. Ram it figurately down their throats.

  17. Graybeard_Shaving on

Never gonna happen. Wish it would but I’ve been alive on this rock long enough to know it won’t. At best, you might be able to get a public option by opening up Medicare to those without employer based insurance.

The next democratic president is going to spend all his time digging us out of the bottomless pit, that shitstain has us in.

  19. I agree to this based on a single view.
Look at GOP’s actions for the past 1.5 year.
The tax rebates to the upper class. Golden public sector contracts to private donors.
The various invasions and attacks they’ve led on other nations.
All of Trump’s insane remodeling and building projects purely based on his need to showcase wealth and power.
The number of “cutting government waste” that ended up costing more than it “saved”, and has caused still unknown amounts of damage.

Yes. The US economy and government can bloody afford universal healthcare, and every other support system other wealthy nations grants its citizens. US is supposed to have among the highest GPD per capita.
Of course it can afford it all, and much more.

While I’m all for universal healthcare, what I’d really like to see are trials. For far too long we’ve watched corrupt officials flagrantly breaking the law with zero consequences.

Heads need to roll (figuratively?) for the shit they’ve put this country through over the last decade+.

  21. Direction_Kind on

That’s easy. Don’t spend a zillion dollars on wars. I’m sure the giant healthcare companies and pharmaceutical behemoths won’t mind losing their cash cow for the good of the common citizens. And defense industry wouldn’t care either. They are probably sick of making bombs all the time and would rather build cheap electric cars.

  22. Yes, we have to have universal health care. It will help society in a number of ways.

  23. JohnnyWeapon on

With the amount of money this administration is blowing on idiotic shit, there’s no excuse. The money clearly exists. If politicians actually existed to enact good for the people, this wouldn’t even be a discussion. It has to be bipartisan, like, tell me a single person who wouldn’t like to not worry about whether or not they should go see a doctor because of the cost.

  24. There is a lot they need to figure out. How the fuck are they going to keep what is happening from happening again is probably the thing they REALLY need to figure out. Not fucking around with prosecutions like Joe did and cleaning up media should be up there too.

MAGA wanted to the Hungary model, Dems need to follow the new Hungary model while cleaning this shit up.

  25. The next Dem president better figure out how to get the GOP labeled as a seditious, rebellious organization so they can be treated like defeated enemy combatants.

Universal healthcare won’t mean shit if in 2-4 years the next maga fascist just dismantled it illegally via EO or whatever

  26. I’d settle for the next president rounding up the centi-billionaires and forcing them to sign over their wealth.

  27. Floreat_democratia on

Weird how there is unlimited money for war but nothing for education, health care, environmental protection or renewable energy. Funny, that.

  28. losingthefarm on

You actually think any democratic nominee for president would actually try to get universal Healthcare? This is one of those things that loses by one vote in the senate because a democratic senator (not up for re election) doesnt agree even though it would benefit the whole country.

If you think this is a possibility, you dont know how politics works. Obama got too close. The Healthcare lobby would never let that happen. They own too many Senators/Congress people

  29. cheefie_weefie on

Free healthcare. Free college. Cancel all student debt. It’s that easy. Just fucking do it.

  30. Universal healthcare is the work of congress… it bothers me that we just collectively assume the executive is supposed to make law

  31. Effective-Notice3867 on

That shit is the bare minimum , I want more than that bullshit and don’t say we can’t afford it
