Imagine having such wretched & unpopular policies that the only way you can win is by cheating…

  2. That seems illegal, and just proves the need for the Voting Rights Act, because now they are going to be gerrymandering based on race and give white votes more power…..

This is the “Purcell Principle” on steroids. The Supreme Court essentially gave every state a green light to pull this move by constantly ruling that it’s “too close to an election” to fix illegal maps. Now Louisiana is just moving the goalposts so they can stay in that “too close to fix” window indefinitely. It’s a brilliant, albeit evil, legal loophole.

  4. Color me stupid (registered voter in PA), but in the end of all this gerrymandering bullshit/voter suppression, doesn’t it come down to people voting for whomever they want? I mean, even if I live in a gerrymandered as fuck district, but there’s a candidate on the ballot I like more than another, I can still vote for the GOOD one, right?

I mean, holy fuck, if a candidate is fucking awful, like Lindsey Graham, isn’t there a chance that even people in gerrymandered as fuck districts say, “Fuck that”, and vote for another candidate?

it’s really not hard to believe that Louisiana is so uneducated and so poor and unhealthy. glad i moved away as soon as i finished college.

I get that the SC ruling says they can gerrymander, but arent there rules on impromptu election rescheduling?

  7. And still, some Americans (not all of course) will tell you they have freedom! That they are probably the most free country in the world.

  8. You know what the only funny thing about gerrymandering is? It only works if you can spare the votes… the moment that you have a swing against you that turns your supermajority into a marginal majority, you will lose your safe seats because you gave a bunch of votes away to seats that you were never going to win. I would love to see them pushing this just a micron too far and losing every single seat as a result.

  9. This is your chance, residents of Lousiana. Are you gonna wait for the next No Kings Day to walk around a park holding your sign with a pithy slogan or are you gonna actually DO SOMETHING this time?

Im getting really sick of the South FKing everyone else.

Texas, Florida and Louisiana can leave the union for all I care. Sherman should have kept going.

So what’s going to happen with poor white people when republicans run this country into the ground more than they already have? Because right now so many of them are still under the illusion that their economic troubles are due to brown people. So let’s say that they get rid of all the brown people—republicans are still never going to bring back good paying jobs for the masses and they’re certainly never going to pass a tax cut for anyone that isn’t a billionaire and they’re never going to take care of veterans or implement a nation healthcare system.

Everyday people will never thrive or flourish under a system built to benefit the wealthy. Do they really not see that?

  12. Maybe its just time to break up. Its what you would tell your friend about their partner in a similar situation.

  13. Sometimes I’m flabbergasted by how blatantly ‘wrong’ things are.

Everyone knows the entire idea is to selectively break up a minority population into districts that prevent them from having a representative say. It’s blatantly obvious.

Instead of someone being able to say ‘come on guys this is clearly bullshit’ we get the decades of courts and nonsense

  14. Louisiana so anxious to remain one of the most pitiable states in the country. Do they have Stockholm Syndrome?

Really seems like this will further polarize the red and blue states. What an ugly horrible balkanization we are being led into.

SCOTUS: We don’t need the Voting Rights Act anymore because states are not disenfranchising voters. Let’s remove these key provisions.

    Louisiana: Let the disenfranchising begin!

All democrats need to move to blue states and then we’ll evict the republicans from them and let them find a new home.

  18. Democrat leadership has been dropping the ball for the past decade. I know there’s not much they can do about a sc decision but to me this encapsulates a lot of the reason we’re at where we are. Less than 24 hours after the bullshit decision Louisiana comes out and I. So many words says , “we’re gonna take full advantage of this bullshit decison.” Hakeem Jeffries and chuck Schumer will come out w d make a statement that says, in so many words, “well we don’t want to make a hasty decision so we’re gonna wring our hands for a few months.”

  19. Imagine living in a representative republic and going along with the party that commands which representatives you’re allowed.
