Congress voted to reopen key parts of the Department of Homeland Security — including the Transportation Security Administration — Thursday after weeks of GOP infighting that prolonged a record shutdown of the critical agency.
The bill to fund the department, which has gone unfunded for 75 days, now goes to President Donald Trump for his signature.
House GOP leaders conceded in a weeks-long DHS funding fight in a major retreat by Speaker Mike Johnson as he faced a growing revolt from centrists in his party, multiple sources told CNN. The House passed the package — which includes no money for federal immigration enforcement, in a major win for Democrats — by a voice vote Thursday afternoon.

So they could have done this for the other shutdown too, but just didn’t. At least they learned a lesson I guess.

I’d be a lot more excited about this if it wasn’t coming off the heels of that SCOTUS decision.
Still, I’ll take this victory.

Congress has now been proven to be irrelevant. America has one branch of government. No, not the President.

That indicates that “we the voters” can blame all the GOP – as they cower behind their desks – don’t ask don’t tell!

Just heard the Speaker say they were able to get it done with a lot of “prayer”.

They’re only doing this so they don’t miss their summer trips. Fetterman is probably looking foward to his beach vacation.

Man just abolish DHS already. Send everything that is needed back to their original departments

Don’t look now, but Dems won this one. They won the last one as well.

Never really understood what their issue was. If they are willing to use reconciliation to fund ICE they could have done that separately anyway unless I’m misunderstanding something.
Though maybe if its not attached to a bunch of useful agencies, their rep’s might have trouble swallowing a $140bn, military sized price tag, just a year after receiving an already massive increase, for an agency that seems more interested in harassing american citizens than policing immigration.
Zulmoka531 on
Are they not going to just find ICE through reconciliation anyways? I’ll take a win with Dems standing their ground though.

ICE is already funded through BBB until 2030 or something so what was the point of all this?

Oh hey, the Democrats actually did something.

it’s not a win. they know they have midterms rigged and will be able to do anything they want in a few months. trump family / republicans will have choke hold over politics for next ~15-20 years if not longer. they already succeeded with viktor orbans playbook. we’re too late. I want to be optimistic but there genuinely are no levers left.

I can’t believe these fuckers are going on recess again. But finally democrats didn’t cave!

This is the problem i have with these articles, this shouldn’t be a win for democrats or republicans, this is a win for TSA workers; shit like this causes more division.

That moron Mullin is just saying they’ll reconciliation the ICE funds. Is that possible?

Nice job, Dems! Hold fast and you can make change.

About time they learned that false promises of future “talks” gains you nothing.
