Don’t think Polanski suggesting Palestine doesn’t have a right to exist will go down well with the Green Party voter base.

Yeah, no. Cultural borders are a good thing. Whether you like it or not people from different places have different values. I don’t personally want to live under the same values as Saudi Arabians do, in fact I don’t even want to live under the same values as Americans as much as they seem to be terraforming our country into the 51st state via social media and the media.

British people have a particular way they want to live and borders are just the way we enable that those differences between groups of people around the globe.

Ahh he’s just committing to going full self-destruction. A bold strategy, let’s see how it plays out for him

    This is the correct take

People have inalienable rights. States do not

If you believe that states have a right to exist, you end up tied in such knots as defending the continued existence of the USSR, or Nazi Germany, or North Korea

    >Israel doesn’t have the “right” to exist but questioning Palestine’s right to exist is heinous but also borders aren’t actually real but Scotland should be able to define it’s own borders….which never actually existed….. and leave the UK…..which has no right to exist.

‘Polanski doesn’t support the existence of a Palestinian State’ is a bold strategy I guess

Completely agree with this inasmuch as talking about a ‘right to exist’ is pointless. The world does exist right now, as do the countries in it. Rights are taken (back), not given, and Israel has nuclear weapons. So what’s there to discuss?

  8. Considering how welll he’s done with his response to terrorist attacks and his comments about Jews imagining the threat to them, I’m sure he’s going to do really well with the endless questions he’s going to get about why the UK shouldn’t exist.

It’s a boring statement of fact. State’s do not have a right to exist, people have a right to exist.

Question does the UK have a right to exist? What happens to the UK if Scotland or Northern Ireland, or even Wales decides they want independence, and leaves?

States and their borders are determined by political processes, and sometimes by war (which is illegal under international law). Israel was originally created by a UN mandate, it didn’t exist before then; in the future it could stop existing.

Saying that a state has a right to exist is nothing more than a piece of political theatre.

Unsurprusing from a man who would happily leave us with a disintegrated union and defenceless.

I don’t get Zack’s obsession with Israel. There are so many countries in the world doing deeply problematic things but he’s properly locking in on Israel.

People have the right to exist, states do not.

People seem to forget how many states have had borders that move or have even completely disappeared during history. I don’t see anybody campaigning for the right of the state of Pomerania, Prussia or Czechoslovakia to exist.

Nah misleading headline, not his man but that headline is designed to make it look anti-Jew.

Though i don’t agree with his position i understand that it has value. The idea of a united world has been dreamed of for thousands of years, its hardly a new concept.

Man they are really gunning for him. Its so weird they left it this late in the day.

  14. Countries exist. They don’t have a right to exist.
    Czechoslovakia no longer exists.
    Prussia no longer exists.
    Yugoslavia no longer exists.
    Should they be bought back?

    People’s have rights, not countries.

That said this question, “does Israel have a right to exist” is a trap an experienced politician shouldn’t walk into. The correct answer as I’ve given above is too nuanced for a right wing media and he’ll get caned for it.

  15. One could say Russia has decided the same about Ukraine that it has no right to exist.

  16. Can he just stop saying shit that can be easily cut up to be used against him. Christ.

  17. Meh, I mean he’s not wrong there. Countries don’t have rights, people do.

  18. TBF, I was expecting his implosion to arrive a lot sooner. Fair play for lasting so long.

Mate, my fucking garden has a border because even though I like my neighbours, I don’t want them wandering into my garden at their own leisure.

  20. He’s quite right and there’s nothing radical about his position. You will search in vain through international law for anything about a state’s “right to exist”. It is a concept pretty much solely brought up by Israel and its defenders.

  21. Just what we need to hear from someone wanting to be PM.

The UK doesn’t have a right to exist

So Palestine has no right to exist? That’s gonna clear up the Middle East issues quite a bit
