Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane.

I am so sick of AI hysteria. “At a billion device” scale the model consumes a few thousand cars worth of emissions. That seems insane until you remember there are actually 1.5 billion ACTUAL CARS, with emissions requirements actively being rolled back by the government. This is equivalent to 0.000008% of car emissions. It is not insane. It is a marginal concern when looking at a broader trend of AI energy use at best.

Enviromentalists need to stay focused on the actual problems in the world instead of just jumping on the AI hype and doom train.
