The war on Iran will likely end in American retreat. The US cannot continue the war without producing disastrous consequences. The likely endgame is that the war will end with a return to the status quo, except Iran will gain new strategic advantages.

What a waste of taxpayer money this boondoggle has been and for absolutely nothing.

The good news is that this will likely be a turning point in Trump’s power.

A part of the authoritarian life cycle is getting bogged down in an unpopular war that drains national resources, morale, and makes the strongman look weak and impotent.

The side effect of that though is that it is likely to also mark a decline in the US empire, which regardless how you feel about that is going to have seismic ramifications the world over.

Yeah…will be described as a tactical withdrawal rather than Trump FUCKED up bigtime and put the entire planet at risk.

  4. I’m guessing Trump will do enough to keep oil prices high. He promised big oil big money, and he’ll continue to deliver on this.

Money will now be wasted developing new offensive and defensive weapons that were vulnerable during the strikes. A massive Navy is getting to be obsolete like when airplanes made the battleships obsolete.

Nobody wants boots on the ground which is really the only way to close out a war win

  7. Gee – it’s not like this outcome was predicted by *every* expert in the field…

And I predict that MAGA supporters will buy whatever BS excuse that Trump gives them.

  8. Unlikely. The midterm is already decided before the war even begins. The party in power always loses the midterm unless it’s a miracle that happens ie war/invasion that prompts some patriotic/unity response like 9/11. Trump does not have the ability to seek another presidential term, so it’s no consequence to him whether the pain is inflicted or not. What matters is his ego, and he won’t let Iran declare victory easily because of that. What most likely to happen is the blockade will continue to inflict more economic damage to Iran, at a cost of high oil/gas price in order to extract a concession so that he can call it victory.

If Trump truly cares about the damage done to the US, he wouldn’t have raised tariffs in the first place but he did. He only cares about enriching himself and his oil/gas donors. Don’t be surprised that he will continue on this blockade for months until Iran came to some sort of concessions.

  9. Trump has already lost the war.

To use a sports metaphor, he confused delivering hits with scoring points.

The US blew up a lot of stuff, but Iran now has a stranglehold on the global economy, including Trump’s low information base of voters. His own people are now asking questions every time they fill up and it’s only going to get worse.

  10. Status quo? You mean that the corporations out there won’t keep jacking up prices? Right.

  11. Iran will have nukes, US will be in a depression and despised around the world. This is Drumpf’s legacy.

Absolutely predictable. There will be no regime change in Iran. They’ll agree to limit their enrichment capabilities, but we won’t get as much time as Obama negotiated. Maybe we’ll get 10 years. The Strait of Hormuz will reopen but it was already open DESPITE the many sanctions the United States had placed on Iran and now the United States will have to release some of those sanctions.

Iran now looks like the strongest country in the Middle East because they stood up to the most powerful military in the world and forced them to the negotiating table.

Another loss in a long line of losses for the US military.

  13. Plus they’ll gain a new drive and reason/justification to push harder for nukes.

Trump will never admit he’s wrong. He’ll destroy the earth first.

  15. Fits perfectly with this administration that we’d lose a war to Iran over nothing. He’s already lost us our allies, all our credibility on the world stage, and now a war.

Dude is the ultimate loser king of a group of losers

  16. NoOption7406 on

He’s a stubborn old man. He’ll just dig his feet in like Putin.

All we can hope is he destroys the GOP for the next couple decades.

  17. Sufficient-Skill9530 on

Maybe, but the US cannot retreat because Israel won’t let them.

  18. If you call Iran charging to use the Strait and generating millions in income. And having an unregulated Uranium enrichment program beibg back to status quo.

Look on the bright side, the US replaced a 87 year old with cancer Kahmenei, with a 57 year old Kahmenei. So much winning

Putin is still destroying his country rather than admitting a mistake. Why would Trump? He can do this for 3 (plus?) years without feeling any personal pain.

Haven’t you heard, he already won Nov elections.

The very best outcome for the US would be a return to the status quo, but that is becoming less likely since the new strategic advantages re: the Strait if Hormuz and the inadequacies of the current configuration of the US military to deal effectively with cheap drones are so game changing that the overall status quo will be significantly readjusted in Iran’s favor. The $20 billion payout that has already been offered to Iran as part of a peace treaty signifies the US acceptance of their fate.

Yep. It’s been a complete waste of time, money, and emotional energy.
