Although technically pride flags would also be banned under Iran’s “demands”, it is quite clear to any Iranian (and should be quite clear to anyone following the news, really) that this band is targeting the Iranian Lion and Sun flag rather than the pride flag.
Two of the most important demands, they set were that the national anthem must be uninterrupted, and that only the official national flag can be brought into stadiums. They are trying to control dissent and minimize the anti-regime narrative.
Hundreds of thousands of Iranians have protested in the streets, but nothing gives you quite the platform to protest like a World Cup match filled with Iranians flying the opposition flag
