I saw a digital coupon for $5.99 and my heart sank

This is a hate crime, really.
I’m hoping we see a price drop when we get closer to their peak growing season in the late summer

It’s almost like there’s a shortage of fertilizers and fuel has gone up exponentially in price for the delivery trucks…
Thanks MAGA🤑

I bought one for $5.99 last week and this week one store has them for $3.99. This early in the season, they’re from Mexico. We’ll have to see the prices in a few weeks when the USA-grown watermelons start showing up.

Is this Kroger’s?? Their Q1 and I’m guessing Q2 profits and sales must be going down… and as of Jan 2026 they have not had the sales they once used to and they stopped putting their weekly paper ad in the Wednesday ads we get in mail every week. The nail on the coffin though was when I got the paper coupons mailed to me from my local Fry’s. I’ve gotten them twice in the past 2 months. They NEVER send these to regulars, they send them to folks who don’t shop there very much to entice them to come back.
At first it pissed me off they didn’t have the paper ad in the Wednesday weekly… but whatever I use the FLIPP app which is free and shows all the grocery stores in my zip code. Fact remains, their sale prices have been meh at best.
Safeway on the other hand has had 80/20 ground beef on sale for $2.97/lb and $3.97/lb and chicken breasts for $1.77/lb almost 5 times since January. So I have stopped shopping at Kroger’s as my predominant grocery store (not when there is a winco & aldi’s right up the street from me).
So this doesn’t surprise me that once again they don’t have the best price in town. Mark my words, Krogers is hurting and my guess is they are going to shut some more stores down until they can stop the bleed and start competing with other competitors or they’ll continue to lose customers.
Edit: I was curious and checked out their findings from their Q1 earnings call. Apparently their EPS (earnings per share) are up 8c over Q4 2025. So I’m wrong, their sales are up. But the fact they aren’t extending GOOD sales prices to customers means they are greedy bastards and can go f*ck themselves!

I’ll have to limit how many watermelons I drop off the top of the skyscraper to one a week.
