Climate policy is similar to all other social priorities; the degree to which we prioritize it is proportional to our immediate economic needs.
Not having kids? Those of us who are already struggling.
Becoming radicalized against an ‘other group’ on the opposite end of the poly spectrum? Those of us who are desperate for betterment of our conditions but who disagree about the preferred mechanism.
Circling the wagons re: mass immigration? Those who are on tenuous footing and fear wage deflation and labour market displacement.
TLDR: If we had a robust and functional economy, with fair wealth distribution, we would have more bandwidth to devote to environmental advocacy. My $.02
