Just more proof that the American system of government is broken on both sides. She is a blue state version of MTG. You want to get superpacs like AIPAC out politics, good, but Zionism isn’t the problem. The AIPAC and Israeli government’s version of Zionism is.
Zionism means you think that Jews should have a homeland in the region as that is where the historical homeland of Jews is. The problem arose when people like Netanyahu and groups like AIPAC decided that the only way Jews would be safe is if they eradicated any other people in Palestine. This isn’t recent. Some of the early Zionists were for living in peace, but the ones who now control Israel have been Apartheid like since at least the 1950s.
The last thing the left needs are idiots who believe in conspiracy theories. That’s partly how we got here in the first place.

With Talarico’s message about the class conflict and culture wars, his religious background, his inclusiveness and progressive views, he has a REAL chance of defeating a scumbag like Paxton. The two couldn’t be farther apart in terms of their integrity, their dignity, their moral compasses, their accordance with the law.
Paxton was IMPEACHED by his own party FFS. You know how corrupt you have to be these days to get impeached by Texas Republicans… as a slavishly pro Trump Republican?
But Cornyn or Paxton, this election is winnable. Especially if voter turnout hits even close to record highs as it did for the Democratic primary. Not a good sign for Republicans.
Yes, Talarico is a pioneering candidate and has an increasingly better chance of winning in this current climate.
That is of course if Republicans don’t go to whatever lengths possible to suppress and subvert the vote under the false guise of “protecting the integrity of our elections.”
Talarico’s primary win in Texas was lifted by Latino voters.
Trump has lost support among Latinos and then some since the 2024 election. Hmm, I wonder why?
This upcoming Senate election could very well be decided by a demographic that Trump and his MAGA allies have deeply alienated.
That said, while some may see it as a shortcoming, I think Talarico’s faith is a huge selling point for him. He’s a better representation of Christianity than all the religious zealots on the right who exemplify the very antithesis of Christianity and its most basic ethics and principles.
Talarico went to seminary school but still believes strongly in the separation of church and state, and criticizes all forms of state sponsored religion.
He also calls out the religious right on their hypocrisy constantly, says in so few words that Jesus advocated for the sick, the needy, the poor, etc, and contextualizes the lessons of Jesus as a guide on how to be more tolerant, respectful, and accommodating towards foreigners and all marginalized groups.
He supports full equality and inclusivity for the LGBTQ community and other vulnerable groups, a notion that no doubt enrages MAGA conservatives. And he pushes back against religious arguments that discriminate against these communities of people. As a political candidate, he’s a pretty rare example of consistent Christian values.
Talarico is also quite progressive in his support for public education, social programs and his opposition to school privatization. School vouchers/privatization policies redirect education funds towards religious and private schools.
Talarico supports gun and healthcare reforms, voting rights, criticizes billionaires and their influence over our elections, and frames the situation as a class conflict, which probably scares the hell out of some conservatives because it’s a common sense position that they conflate with the evils of “Marxism.”
The big difference is he sees Christian ethics and progressivism as compatible. As opposed to how many “Christians” on the right see religion and ideologies of white nationalism as consistent with one another.
It’s no wonder Trump is incensed and the GOP establishment is pouring so much money into Texas, they’re terrified of candidates like Talarico, alarmed by his populist-progressive appeal and his sincerity, haunted by the idea that they could lose their grip on power to someone who at least conceivably represents the interests of most constituents for once.
As opposed to someone like Donald Trump, who is more anti-christ than Christian, who is and always has been a pretentious, out of touch grifter, and a faux populist demagogue who appeals to the lowest common denominator and worst impulses of his supporters.

> Since Galindo’s record of remarks has come to light, one of her former primary opponents rescinded his endorsement of her. ‘Over the course of the runoff, I have become increasingly troubled by a series of derogatory, inflammatory and conspiratorial statements directed toward Jewish people and others,’ John Lira, a former Small Business Administration staffer, said in a statement.
I guess the headline writer put the focus on Talarico for clicks.
I highly doubt that there are *any* democratic candidates willing to campaign with Maureen Galindo.
The story is that likely republican-affiliated pop-up dark money super PAC is boosting a bigoted conspiracy theorist in a San Antonio-area (CD35) democratic primary runoff. The Lead Left PAC appears to be funding a few democrats during the primaries that are expected to be easier to defeat by republicans in the general election.
“Maureen Galindo, a sex therapist and self-proclaimed professional astrologer has gathered a social media following by spinning left-wing conspiracy theories.”
“After the 35th District was redrawn by the GOP-controlled Texas Legislature, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee initially wrote it off.”
“However, with concerns about AI data centers on the rise in rural Texas, the DCCC changed its tune in December, adding the 35th to its list of ‘districts in play.’”
NYT – [Mysterious Meddling in Democratic Primaries Has G.O.P. Fingerprints](https://archive.ph/2En3g)
“A new super PAC with ties to Republicans is intervening in Democratic primaries, in one instance helping a sex therapist in Texas accused of antisemitism.”
“The bulk of new spending is from a new group called Lead Left PAC, which has a scant online presence and was created so recently that it has not had to disclose any donors yet. The PAC was registered to a treasurer who has not previously registered a political committee, with an address that matched that of a Staples office supply store in Tallahassee, Fla. The spending so far has flowed through limited liability corporations with little disclosure.
But Republican fingerprints are detectable. The ads the group has run in Nebraska closely mirror the messaging in ads previously paid for by a nonprofit group that is linked to House Republican leadership, called the American Action Network. And the metadata of the Lead Left PAC’s website includes links to WinRed, a prominent Republican donation-processing firm, as Punchbowl News previously reported. The metadata reference was later removed.”
“[Bob Brooks] ‘This is exactly what’s wrong with our broken and corrupt political system. A MAGA super PAC can parachute in at the final hour and spend millions of dollars in Republican dark money to spread lies about me and my record of service to the Lehigh Valley.’”
“Also, $42,000 went to support Maureen Galindo, a housing advocate who advanced to the Democratic runoff in Texas’s 35th Congressional District that includes a part of San Antonio.”
Democrats need to make a clear distinction between anti Zionism and antisemitism. Zionism is not popular with the electorate and many Jews hate the killings of innocent in the Middle East.

She honestly doesn’t make sense a lot of times. From the article:
*On Instagram Wednesday Galindo wrote that, if elected, she would “(1) write legislation so that all Zionism and support of Zionism is undoubtedly Anti-Semitic, since it’s Zionists harming the Semites.” The candidate added that she would turn a local immigrant detention center “into a prison for (2) American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking,” adding in parentheses, “It (3) will also be a castration processing center for pedophiles which will probably be most of the Zionists.”*
I numbered the things that stuck out from one paragraph in this piece:
1. What is this actually saying? Is she going to propose a law that makes anything that is determined (by someone) to be “Zionism and support of support of Zionism” be legally considered Antisemitic? What does that do at all? Is she trying to say she’s going to make a new crime that is labeled “Anti-Semitism”? Ok, well what are the elements of that crime? She’s really imprecise with words to an annoying level. As it reads here, I don’t know what this proposed legislation is at all.
2. She wants to turn an immigration detention center into a prison for “American Zionists” and former ICE officers. So for this one, why is she designing prisons by specific crimes like this? Again, what qualifies as the crime of Zionism? It sounds like this is sort of related to point 1, where she is going to write a law that seems to hold all Zionists as Anti-Semites and then put them in a a special prison with the human traffickers from ICE. What exactly are the elements of the crime ‘Zionism’ since she talks a ton about it. Is she saying that she wants it illegal to espouse pro-Zionist statements? What exactly is the crime she’s punishing? Right now it sounds like she is criminalizing an opinion, which is no bueno. If she wanted to make it so that any crimes that are undertaken to support Zionism could qualify for treatment as a hate crime- that is something to talk about at least, but this tells me nothing. About the ICE officers, is she looking to investigate ICE and charge some or all of it as a criminal enterprise? Tell me more about that, for sure. But again no idea what she is actually proposing.
3. What the hell is a castration processing center? Is she proposing that there will be mandatory castration for certain categories of crimes? We’ve never had forced castration and it would be a whole legal challenge to get that law into place and it would have to be extremely narrowly written to have any chance of being operable. Still don’t think it would be constitutional based on the sense I get of her thoughts here.
This doesn’t impress me at all, unfortunately. That’s a bummer, because anyone in politics who is working to make it clearly understood that it is not anti-Semitic to oppose actions done by the government of Israel is helping make a point that is long overdue and quite important. But, I have been underwhelmed by more than a few of the pols who are staking out this Anti-Zionist political identity. Does she ever go into detail about these planks in her platform or is it more emotional than well-planned? I’m tired of people who talk carelessly like this and want large amount of power despite never really giving specifics about their intentions.
