    There’s some problems with the granularity of this list.

    John Vanthof, a farmer, appears to be renting out two farm houses. (Lots 8 and 9 Concession 1, Evanturel, ON)

    Family farms are inter-generational and typically have multiple houses for when the children have their own children. Those houses are usually on agricultural lots and you wouldn’t want to lose those houses as they may be needed by offspring. It does no good to anyone to leave them vacant, so renting them out is a reasonable option.

    Many people also convert part of their property (e.g. basement) into a secondary suite. Those people are still living in their house but have increased the housing stock by dividing their property. That’s a benefit.

    I have no love for people who buy up housing to profit, but that needs to be distinguished.
