It’s blindingly obvious at this point that the IS a separatist. Her behaviour literally make zero sense under any other conclusion. A separatist and a pro-annexationist too most likely.

  2. She’s obviously a foreign agent – she’s had multiple trips / meetings with American officials and Kevin O’Leary (gag), she went to Mar a Largo to kiss the ring – she’s not a Premier, she’s actively working to sow dissent and chaos in a foreign rival at the behest of her masters.

She knows her time is running out, she knows she’s toxic.

She’s the Kristi Noem of Canada.

Surprised she hasn’t gotten her MAGA facelift yet.

Could we stop making excuses for her? She’s only encouraged and helped the separatists throughout her time in office…but she’s just in over her head? Come on…

    >“Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.

    >That word is “Nazi.” Nobody cares about their motives anymore.

    >They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?”

    >― A.R. Moxon

“Opportunists” are finding and will continue to find themselves leading or supporting all sorts of awful and destructive movements, from Alberta separatism to whatever stripe of neo-fascism that MAGA and MAGA-Canada are, to worse. “But they are really just opportunists,” should mean absolutely nothing to the rest of us. They are joining what they are joining. The are supporting what they are supporting. Those things don’t have to get as bad as Nazism ultimately got for Moxon’s quote to be apt.

“Opportunism” is not a meaningful explanation for anything, and it *certainly* is no excuse.

It does not matter if she was an opportunist (which i agree with) over her head or not. Right now she is a separatists. Minimizing her role in all of this does not help anyone. She should be treated like a separatist. As someone who lives in alberta and is tried of this rhetoric, we need to call a spade a spade.

Eh, I think that’s not exactly wrong but not quite the right framing. Smith is a proud member of the modern right wing grifter class – anything to get rich and powerful at the expense of most of society. No different than the Shapiros and Kirks of the world, or the clowns that drove Brexit. It’s all just grift and larceny, but it hurts the right people and convinces enough rubes that they’ll get their golden ticket too.

She has no more desire to separate than she does to build up Alberta. Her interest extends only as far as her personal gain. “Independence” would be a greater opportunity to sell out to American buyers and siphon off more of what currently goes through the feds.

I think we eventually will learn that she’s received substantial promises and benefits from the Trump administration. This whole thing has been a sham.

  8. Well that’s like saying the sky is blue.

You’re telling me that the Danielle Smith who crossed the floor after Jim Prentice parachuted in, an opportunist? The same Danielle Smith who came back from the political grave when she smelled weakness in Jason Kenney’s hold on the crazies? A woman who’s so utterly lacking in integrity that she once wrote an article on the health benefits of smoking when paid by tobacco companies to do so?

It should surprise no one that Danielle Smith stands for nothing except personal gain. If selling Alberta to the US benefits her, then she’ll do it without hesitation.

  9. The media is obsessed with pretending people don’t believe what they say. I can only assume its because the people running the media don’t seem to believe anything.

Our entire set of political institutions were created at a time in which most politicians broadly supported the same things and they are incapable of adjusting to a genuine fascist moment. To acknowledge reality would be tacky so we need to pretend its some game.

  10. No she is a separatist. She has ran through a separatist referendum illegally against the will of the Albertan people.

How can there be any vote when elections Alberta cannot even fully investigate the fraud in the current petition being jammed through?

They announced the results before the vote.

Show me one Conservative stand up to this. Not in action. My MLA and MP are silent about this.

The Conservatives in session were openly dishonest about the petition and conflated the separatists and the Forever Canada petition as the same thing.

Then refused to allowe the Forever Canada petition creator speak at all and in fact spoke for him.
