    From the article:

*”The NAACP’s campaign calls out Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and South Carolina as states to boycott, arguing that the athletic programs of those states’ major universities are especially reliant on Black athletic talent and should protect Black political interests.”*

  2. If they can actually get this to catch on with some high level recruits, this is the type of boycott that could be incredibly effective.

  3. Why don’t they call for democratic mayors mayors and governors to boycott companies that fund republican terrorism? They need to look to people in actual positions of power, including themselves, not student athletes. There is so much more that they could do.

This is the sort of asymmetrical warfare that needs to be aimed at the Republican Party. Their goons can’t shoot protestors who are not there, but are in another state mounting an effective resistance.

  5. Nba and nfl should be doing this instead

It’s beyond shitty asking young college aspiring people to fuck with their chance to get educated for free on scholarship, while the adult men who have already benefited from college sports just sit with their millions quietly.

That’s a great idea. Hit them somewhere that they care deeply about: college football.

    > Black athletes should not be asked to generate wealth, prestige, and power for state institutions while those same states strip political power from Black communities.

These states want the revenue from Black athletic talent while making sure Black voters don’t get fair representation, you can’t have it both ways.

Ohio State wants to be the benefactor of this, but Ohio is gerrymandered almost as badly as the South.

I hope every black family in the country sees this and gets on assignment. Really white people need to talk to these other white people but looks like nothing will be done unless black people do it. Got to go find another mlk.

I have no idea how sports are still being played and stadiums being packed.

Why haven’t more immigrant athletes banded together to put a stop to this shit…

    Oh yeah.
    Cash Rules Everything Around Me…

  11. Delusional thinking. No young college age black kid is going to boycott something that could give them generational wealth.

  12. ChuckSouth63 on

Because students going to Ohio State or Indiana is going to teach Republicans not to gerrymander?

  13. Good luck with that when most of the best college football programs are in those states

Nice idea but athletes will never turn down millions of dollars en masse.

  15. PlentyAny2523 on

Yeah its not happening. No kid is giving up on his dream (with nil money) for political clout. Most athletes dont care about anything outside of their sport

Amazing how “keep politics out of sports” only appears when the politics makes people uncomfortable

  17. I shall boycott sportsball sir.
    Not that I watch anyway.

Its not much but it’s honest work

  18. It might take a year or two, but there are plenty of northern colleges that would love these black players.

  19. This actually has teeth. If top recruits start publicly saying they’re avoiding SEC states because of voting laws, boosters will panic. Money talks. And college football money is loud. Smart move by the NAACP. Let’s see if it sticks.

It doesn’t really make sense to me because southern states have been actively defunding their higher education and this is where most of your HBCUs are, most of your Black students are as well.

So further defund the places where Most Black people live, most black people go to school and where most Black schools are?

  21. No matter what the cause and how moral the fight is. You will never beat bread and circus.

  22. This could be effective but there will be several layers to it.

First is for a noticeable percentage of 4 and 5 star kids to participate in the boycott. 5% minimum but more is better.

But just as important will be the messaging around it. Will the recruits go on record about the decision , or will they just say something like they just had a special connection with xyz coach? I happen to think that many will choose the latter. You can’t blame them.

It would help if this takes hold with all athletes as well. Not just the high profile Black fb and bb players.

And then it will also take time. Several years for the aggregate recruiting data to show any impact.

But HELL YES, this is a great idea.

Why would these kids go to a public university in a state with a policy that says “we don’t care about your vote”?

Remember that the University of Oklahoma keeps Internet connected slaves under duress to inspire trillion dollar media like Marvel due to the “superpower” ESP as well as the ACLU which has remained silent on the issue. Reject them as well when you boycott the southern SEC football programs. It is not the time to be fucking around with this technology.

No one took away anyone’s voting rights. The courts just said you can’t make congressional districts exclusively on race.

    Exactly as it should be.
