This is fucking hilarious. They could erect monuments to the incompetency of Trump’s Republican Party.

The strategically sound play would have been to have all the old-timers immediately resign as soon as Trump was inaugurated so he could use his newly minted trifecta of government control to push for younger conservative justices to seal that 6-3 majority for the next 30 years.

But no, he needed Alito and Thomas to stay on the bench as rubber stamps to help push through Project 2025 initiatives. Now, he’s become so unpopular, dragging down support from within the party at the same time, that he may not be able to replace them while the Republican Party is at great risk of losing the White House in 2028.

Trump burning incumbent Republicans when his party has tight margins in both houses is such a stupid strategy, because it doesn’t just alienate those now forced out, it alienates their sitting allies.

It’s unforced error after unforced error with Kim Jong Orange, who would likely lose a game of Checkers to a squirrel. But art of a deal 15 D chess or something

  3. Alito and Thomas are about to learn the hard way that ‘lifetime appointment’ sometimes means you literally aren’t allowed to quit.

I read previously that neither was interested in leaving before the midterms. If so this is clickbait.

  5. >Trump may not have the votes to replace Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito

What utter BS, it does not matter what Trump says or does, or how upset the Senate GOP may be with him, if it came to solidifying their hold over the Supreme Court for the next 30-40 years they would put whatever animosity aside immediately.

The only thing that would stop them is if he nominated a Democrat or a progressive leaning justice.

  6. I mean yeah sure, Republicans are going to come together to insure they keep the Supreme Court on their side, that much is Obvious as plenty of people have pointed out. The point everyone seems to be missing is what it would Cost the GOP to get those votes.

The republicans in the house that are getting voted out BY Trump right now? They’re not just going to vote on a conservative Judge for Free, they’re going to want something in return. Even if they have no intention of putting a Liberal Judge on the bench they know they have leverage right now to get basically anything they want.

So what’s to stop one of these representatives that are on the way out the door next year from demanding Trump’s head on a plate in return that they play ball and vote with the rest of the Republican party?

The Article isn’t saying that Republicans don’t have the votes for a Judge, they’re saying Trump doesn’t have the votes to keep his Presidency.

Sure he does, because Democrats will reach across the aisle and shoot themselves in the foot like always.

  8. Zero D votes for the Court or the courts. If we get the senate we don’t confirm any judges AT ALL until there is a new president.

Clarence Thomas should have been disbarred years ago during DT’s first term for all of his grifting and corruption.

There’s zero doubt that he has the votes, if he does it this summer. No R senator is going to cut off their own nose to spite Trump.

  11. I’m trying to think of the last time the Republican party didn’t let Trump down.

Not shocked. When R’s were cheering RBG for not stepping down, I chuckled as I new CT would do the same thing.

This was one of my.major fears with him getting second term. If both Alito and Thomas where to “retire” after the mid terms especially of the Republicans loose bad they sure as hell will.vot ot replace them to get young Republicans Magas in the court. We then would be looking at Trump having appointed 5 of the nine judges.

  14. BeeBobber546 on

This is just silly, no matter how much of a feud republicans have with Trump they would never pass on an opportunity to vote on a Supreme Court justice. That is one of the greatest powers a us senator has and you’d get credit for putting someone on the bench for decades.

If Trump gets to make a nomination and Republicans have the majority, that person will get confirmed.

  15. Yes. It is entirely possible that every single Republican will, instead of falling inline and voting for a conservative judge which gives them all hardons, forget that it’s the day of the vote and they might all go chase butterflies that day
