One of my favourite 2025 election pastimes was monitoring the comments section of the Polymarket page seeing all the people who confidently bet all their savings on Dutton in January. My favourite was a user named “Bussyblaster” or something like that. Seeing his deranged comments saying it was a sure thing and then the crashout was pretty funny. Never got to see the aftermath because shortly thereafter Polymarket was blocked in Australia.

    >…specific words the prime minister, Anthony Albanese, says in parliament…

We should put a few million of public funds on and then make the Prime Minister say/not say those exact words so the public wins everything. That’d teach them.

In my view predictions have always informally existed within markets, all these platforms are doing is formalising what already happened. The shares of military contractors rallied at times of war, food prices rallied in times of drought and housebuilders rallied after a wildfire swept through the suburbs. Now though you can just buy the contract instead of the shares.

Imagine though that you are a farmer and you don’t want to be wiped out by drought. Being able to buy a contract to hedge you against drought might be really useful.

Idk who needs to hear this, but this is *bad*. This could suggest that some nefarious power-that-is is planning an interference operation.
