This is why separation is inevitable. The majority of UCP members already support it, and that proportion will only grow. The UCP is also completely unable to be dislodged from power electorally. The NDP are not viable competition given the position of the Overton window in the province. Separation is already at an incredibly high starting point, with 30-35% of the vote according to the latest poll. This is where Quebec and Scotland started. At best, it will end up 55-45 in favour of the federalists. I have no faith left in Albertans at this point.

Any man or a woman with a brain will back independence whether they are UCP or NDP. Alberta Republic offers no carbon tax, no federal tax, higher standard of living, direct democracy, free press, less expensive food, more jobs. What is not to like here?

I’m sincerely sorry to the rest of Canada for our embarrassment of a government. The party has been absolutely Trojan horsed by separatists, so even those who are conservative, but have absolutely no interest in separating, feel like their votes have been used for power that is implementing something completely against their own beliefs.

In the grand scheme of things, the UCP are just Americans cosplaying Canadians at this point. As for UCP members and voters, this is about what I’d expect from them.

With such a dramatic shift in policy and without the mandate of running openly as a platform in the last election this should trigger an election with those that want forming a new separatist party rather than taking over a party from the inside.
The MLA’s should grow a spine and not flop with the wind.

Not surprising considering they’ve taken over the party. They’re over represented in the UCP, it’s not really a fair indicator of the average Albertan or even the average UCP voter.
