  1. The article doesn’t seem to indicate the amount of benefit the events will provide to the local economy/businesses, and the increase in tax revenue generated from them. I’m not saying the benefit necessarily offsets the cost, just that it appears the number presented might only look at one side of the equation.

  2. I’m not attending, but my taxes pay for it. I’m cool with paying for schools and services, but I could not a flying duck about FIFA and their deep pockets

    Roughly 1.1 billion from multiple levels in government. Not bad considering an estimated 1 million tourists will visit. If just each tourist spends 1 thousand they break even. Factoring in Flights,Accommodations,Tourism, etc it should be considerably more. We’ll see how the numbers actually play out though.
