  1. I am somewhat surprised that he’s resigning all together. I might have thought he’d stay as an independent. Him leaving is definitely better news than the alternative for the Liberals since they’d likely still win his seat

  2. I get that it’s kind of complicated to word, but saying he “steps” down just isn’t accurate, given that he’s going to stay on until summer. “Intention to resign” seems more correct.

Regardless, this is the best outcome for Carney, since they avoid him actually leaving the caucus like some rumours yesterday, and he resigns on their timeline.

The question is when do they time the by-elections. The Liberals have at least 3, which will obviously be at the same time.

But Boulerice is going to step down a month or two after that, along with a few BQ MPs I’ve heard. Does Carney just delay those until after the Quebec election, since there probably won’t be time before?

I look forward to being a strong advocate for the environment and keeping pressure on the government. We are in an existential crisis

Incredibly disappointing and honestly kind of pathetic how he wont stay an Independent MP (or Green) and use the power and platform of his seat to push for what he believes in and hold the government to account + doesn’t even make a strong statement about what he disagrees with the Carney government on.

So much for fighting for the environment and other issues that impact Canadians. He climbed the CN Tower to protest the environment but now he’ll just walk away. He has power as an MP but he’s just abandoning it and wont even criticize his new banker boss. Sad. I guess he’ll make some NGO money and then fade off into the distance as the world burns.

His major achievement in public life is sabotaging environmental policy with bad comms and approach in the Trudeau era and then leaving when the going gets tough and he could use his position as an MP to hold the government to account and push for what he believes. Guess the world can burn and our society too Mr. Guilbeault, good job.
