Why would they do that when they could get increasingly petrochemical dependent countries like the US to just pay more?
Oil producing countries (along with EVERY OTHER COUNTRY) are actively investing in alternative energy because its cheaper and better. That puts the US at a strategic disadvantage and that is the whole reason we are doing this.
Also, I thought Trump wanted us to “drill baby drill”. A lower oil price means there will be no drilling of any kind because all the American oil companies would go out of business.

The US is the largest oil producer in the world at 22% of the world’s supply.
I think he’s talking to the wrong people at this point. Yeah, the light crude from the middle east is better for our refineries. My understanding is the oil exports flow both directions, so there’s local leverage to be had IF the oil companies play along. But why should they? Record profits.
