  1. No, it has nothing to do with climate. Keep your communist activism away from our data-driven and science-based approach to the climate issue.

  2. Placing utilities in the hands of lazy, corrupted government employees…

Quite honestly climate change deniers can’t hold a candle to these “socialists” for the harm they are doing to climate change action.

These nonsolutions advance the socialist cause but only hurt climate change solutions.

You want utilities to emit less? Tax their emissions to oblivion.

    That’s all.

Socialized power plants will only lie about their emissions and make excuses.

  3. How about NO…

Let’s instead focus on ensuring strong statewide PUCs to enforce the “just and reasonable” clause. Privatizing IOUs is a bit of a side show

Privatized utilities are the worst. When they’re driven 100% by profit on something that’s pretty much a basic need there’s always going to be issues.

    Like this:

    > As Texas deep freeze subsides, some households now face electricity bills as high as $10,000. “The last thing an awful lot of people need right now is a higher electric bill — and that’s unfortunately something a lot of people will get stuck with.”
    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1258362

The Texas grid for a prime example of this. Rolling blackouts during peak loads, getting judgments that they have no obligation to provide power in emergencies, neglecting infrastructure to the point of failure to try and maximize profit.

    > Texas power plants have no responsibility to provide electricity in emergencies, judges rule https://www.kut.org/energy-environment/2023-12-15/texas-power-plants-have-no-responsibility-to-provide-electricity-in-emergencies-judges-rule

At the very least, the grid should be state owned and regulated and private/public can buy and sell and compete against each other on the nationalized grid. This would keep production prices low and ensure that infrastructure is maintained. That way the grid can also charge taxes on any fossil fuels for dirty generation to help move things in the direction of green production.

  5. I believe coercing public ownership by diluting shares as a result of massive fines, where public and bond holders agree to “restructuring” can result in 50%-99% public ownership of misbehaving companies.

Oil, weapons, and corrupt media would be the first candidates. But utilities are too. They control politicians for their monopoly instead of providing an abundant energy mandate. Through politicians, they can protect poor investments, and block democratic/libertarian energy.

  6. Absolutely this.

It seems patently absurd that there are still some parts of the world where basic infrastructure like power, water, and waste are privatised.
