  1. > President Donald Trump has decided he’s going to the last-minute global gathering of the nation’s top generals in Quantico, Virginia, that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered last week.
    >Trump’s appearance not only upstages Hegseth’s plans, but adds new security concerns to the massive and nearly unprecedented military event.
    >“We have confirmation from the White House that POTUS is now attending the speech on Tuesday,” according to a planning document sent Saturday and viewed by The Washington Post.
Notice went out to offices around the Pentagon that the decision will “significantly change the security posture” of the speech, set for Tuesday morning.
    >The addition of the president at Quantico will now put the Secret Service in charge of securing the event. Hundreds of the military’s top commanding generals and admirals, ranked one-star and above, along with their senior enlisted leaders were ordered to attend by Hegseth last week. The orders provided no reason for the event and initially raised concern among attendees and military officials that he was gathering the group to inform them of mass firings or demotions.

It’s basically a competition for attention

  2. Trump couldn’t stand that there were going to be a ton of important people in a room and he wasn’t the center of attention.

  3. Can you imagine a more perfect exemplar of “the warrior ethos” than a real-estate developer who conducts backroom deals from the golf course? I hope they keep a camera on the generals’ faces in the front row during all of this.

  4. I’m really starting to believe that Hegseth didn’t see his alcoholic face in the press enough and wanted a big showing. Not seeing your own face on TV after being accustomed to re-watching your daily masterful performance on Fox and Friends probably hit him (and the bottle) hard.

I think he really just wanted performance art and was using the entire upper echelon of military command to do it. In the most OPSEC insane way ever.

And then Trump got wind of it and of course couldn’t let such an event go without his soiled diaper presence. He’ll give military leaders some really insane speech to think about. That’s for certain.

  5. I knew this was what it was about. Trump is going for the Saddam moment. There is more here than meets the eye.

  6. This is so stupid.

Anyone remember what happened at the end of Tom Clancy’s book ‘Debt of Honor’?

Having this many high level personnel in one place is really dangerous.

  7. Wonder who else will suddenly decide/be volun-told to attend. Now I’m sure our nation’s enemies are watching this, this is such a horrible idea to have so many in one place.

Hmmm, do we have *anyone* even remotely sane & non-fascist in the order of succession? Asking for a friend…..

  8. Security concern being how to protect the Reckless and Insane Dictator from being detained and escorted to a military mental health facility by honest and genuinely honorable generals and admirals?

  9. he probably failed to listen and understand what Hegseth was doing, so now he’s all woah woah woah I’m going too, the fucking narcissist

  10. Troll_in_the_Knoll on

Did Smegseth really think he was going to get away with garnering more media attention than Trump?

  11. How do Generals feel about being summoned for a speech by Fox News host that didn’t even work himself up the chain or have the necessary experience?

  12. I suspect this backfires on them, and whatever nefarious thing they’re trying to do will be prevented by pissing off all of the high brass for this speech.

  13. Ah yes. I’ve seen this before. The Bath Party in Iraq. Nazis during Hitler’s rise. America continues to fall asleep and pretend that reality isn’t really happening. Yikes.

    Loyalty test- and purge/targeting.

We are going to lose the military.

    Dark days are coming.

  15. Specialist-Day6721 on

It’s a loyalty test. You will see purges in the coming weeks. Just one more step towards authoritarianism.

It’s happing in real time right before our eyes.

  16. Putting all political and military leadership in one location sounds dumb. Publicizing this is even worse.

  17. So they’ll have the commander-in-chief, the secretary of defense, and 800 of the top generals all in one place at the same time? Doesn’t that just feel stupid to anyone?

  18. Educational_Gift_407 on

I think the “warrior ethos” leak is a plant. These guys know not everyone agrees with them, and Trump has taken issue specifically with generals in the past. IDK I think this might end up being another significant escalation.

  19. Oh, boy. Wonder what the chances are they try a swear loyalty to trump not state move and then dismiss anyone who doesnt?

  20. Biodiversity1001 on

It’s gotten so bizarre the only thing that would justify this would be like an alien invasion or World wide catastrophe and they need to meet in a secure location because it’s so highly classified.

But we are all pretty sure it is an ego trip gathering which is a crazy go to yet the most plausible.

I guess if any one has neighbors that are family of top brass and they suddenly start going on long vacations that might be a good indication of WTF is going on.

  21. So lets unpack this.

All of our top military leaders… the secretary of defense (fuck the department of war)… AND the President are going to ALL be at a single location… which has been revealed… AT THE SAME TIME.

And not for anything important… but for an alcoholic to get video of speaking in front of REAL men… saying nothing that couldnt have been communicated in ~~an email~~ unsecured signal chat.

Yeah, that is not now the biggest terror target on the planet.

Fucking hell… we are an embarrassment.

At least the VP is scheduled for quiet hours with his favorite sofa during that time… in case anything happens.

  22. DeanVernonWormerr on

Trump attendance became obvious when it leaked they were doing this to shoot a video, using the generals as props.

  23. Hey, neat, a meeting of all the top military officials AND the president.. in one place.. at a widely announced time, with logistics that will make it impossible to hide the location.. I’m sure that’s a totally safe and sensible thing to do and not at all the biggest target imaginable for our enemies. Edit: Hey maybe let’s get the vice president and speaker of the house in there too, that would be fun!
