Love it. The first rule under this incompetent autocracy is to never comply in advance. I live in a state where our university system has consistently complied with the GOP legislature over the past 15 years, and the results have been disastrous every time. Complying only leads to the Republicans demanding more concessions over time, and sometimes they even refuse to honor a “deal” after the university has already fulfilled its part. Universities should be bastions of intellectual freedom and free speech; Gavin is responding correctly to curb the worst instincts of bad administrators who fail to grasp institutional politics.
