Lol they’re already being blamed for it because “it’s the Democrats fault” doesn’t work when you control all three branches of government. The average voter at least knows that much and will absolutely blame whoever is in office when their health care costs skyrocket.

The shutdown can be stopped pretty quickly — The Republicans just need to negotiate on healthcare subsidies. The GOP have used the shutdown gambit in the past to try to get their way and force Democrats to the table, this time is no different and they need to all come to the table and do their damn jobs. The reason why such inaction is occurring now is that Republicans are scared shitless of Trump and won’t do anything against his bullheaded tendencies.

I think their confidence is probably shattered, especially Pete, who sulked away when he didn’t get the cheers he wanted from his generals.
America is being held hostage by a guy who couldn’t even scrape up 50% of the votes. He would have far less now.

This is intriguing, if only because I think it’s not hyperbole to note that most assume he’s going to pull some kind of stunt to impede, manipulate, or reverse anything he doesn’t like. I still think he’s going to do something, especially if it’s really not looking good. But remember: during the presidential election he said “You don’t even need to vote” and was so cock-sure it was in the bag. And it was. Shocked me, because I legitimately believed there was no way he would win. Now here we are, 10 months into a 4 year term. Shit has been broken, is being broken, and the military is being geared up to be turned on US citizens (NG notwithstanding).
When it comes to this regime, I put literally nothing past them. Nothing.

Panic is the look rats get when a ship is sinking and they’re all scrambling over each other to find a way out before the embrace of death.

I have never understood the hatred of the ACA. It is a comprehensive and effective system of private healthcare insurance with government regulatory oversight to mandate that insurers provide dependable, high-quality healthcare, regardless of pre-existing conditions, without onerous and unfair caps or gimmickry that can undermine or deny someone’s coverage just at the moment they most need it, and providing them with free preventative screenings (like colonoscopies, wellness checks, and vaccinations) that protect the patient and reduce costs for the patient and the system as a whole by catching illnesses sooner. It is expensive, but hardly unaffordable to those who don’t qualify for subsidies. For those who do qualify, it makes the coverage quite affordable. I retired early and have been on an ACA plan for a few years. The deductible is high, but that’s because I chose the cheapest plan, but I have peace of mind that the ACA mandates ensure that if I do have to make claims they will be paid (if I am in compliance with the rules of my plan). And people can’t compare the ACA marketplace plans with employer-sponsored plans because their employer generally pays a significant portion of the premiums. However, even these people benefit from the ACA because of the preventative care mandates, pre-existing condition coverage requirements, and free preventative services. The resistance is really political in nature. The Republicans are brilliant at labeling something so they can demonize it. The second they started calling it “Obamacare” I cringed. That moved the argument from facts and benefits of the plan itself to hatred of Obama and what they thought he stood for. Then, to make matters worse, Obama himself finally accepted the term. The media should never allow themselves to fall victim to this type of partisan political labeling. They never should have embraced the “Obamacare” moniker. That is completely unprofessional and undermines independent journalism and advances partisan division.

WTF. We don’t support giving them health care, we are against it, we fought to kill it multiple times. And we acknowledge that these are people who could not see a doctor any other way. So we are stuck.
It’s like they grudgingly have to accept it.
Even if you aren’t a people person, you can at least accept that it’s cheaper to pay for blood pressure pills than to take care of a non productive stroke victim for the rest of their life.

Not Stephen Miller, this seems to be their “now or never” moment where they can try and deploy ICE agents and the national guard to as many “blue cities” as possible to create a false sense of a crisis.
Has anyone here realistically seen a situation in any city they reside in that would require the deployment of the national guard or 1000s of ICE agents outside of a natural disaster or actual terrorist attack?
No you haven’t. This should be telling.

Yes, the public would see it as that, because that’s what would actually be happening. I can’t stress this enough: *Their concern is that the public would be seeing the reality of what they’re doing*.
That concern explains why they spend so much time and effort trying to blame other people and hoping the public believes them.
