    >President Donald Trump stated during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly last month that [“grocery prices are down.”](https://youtu.be/RLoxCqc3Tro?t=169) Do Americans feel it at the supermarket?

    >According to an Axios survey by The Harris Poll, most Americans believe it is harder to afford groceries compared to a year ago. The findings, released Thursday, show that 47% of the general public feel pain in their wallets, while 34% said that prices are about the same. Meanwhile, 19% of respondents think groceries are now easier to afford.

    >Among independents, 54% say groceries are more costly, compared to 50% of Democrats and 34% of Republicans. Republicans remained more split in their responses — with 28% arguing that they are easier to afford, while 37% say they are similar to last year.

    >The survey also found that 8 in 10 Americans believe the president has “significant influence” over the U.S. economy, and only 47% believe the current administration has had a positive impact on it, signaling a pressure point for Trump and the GOP ahead of the 2026 midterms. Less than 1 in 3 respondents maintain that tariffs have been beneficial for the economy, business or personal finances, while most Americans — standing at 63% — worry of shortages of key goods due to Trump’s signature policy.

The Axios survey revealed that the prices of staple items may be driving up discontent, as it finds eggs up 10.9%, ground beef up 12.8% and coffee up 20.9% over the last year. The rises in prices are following stark surges between 2021 to 2022, according to the survey, which indicates that total grocery prices have increased by over 30%.

Grocery prices have absolutely NOT gone down and, in fact, continue to go up. But then again, I did not believe Trump’s campaign promise to bring the prices down on day one of his Presidency.

    Thanks maga

Remember how hard they cried over eggs? Everything is more expensive now. And now, they’re gaslighting.

  5. unshartedterritory on

Absolutely not. Everything is about 30% more expensive. Beef is double the sale price from a year ago. Shrinkflation is still happening as well.

Grocery prices started going up because of the supply chain disruptions associated with the COVID pandemic in 2020. Trump was in office then and bungled the COVID response, which certainly did not help the situation with the supply chain. He promised to cut grocery prices on Day 1 of his second Presidency, but instead pursued a tariff policy that put another jolt in supply chains. Grocery prices have continued to rise and Trump is not someone I would count on to reduce them.

  7. A bag of potato chips is like $8. Meat is expensive as hell, same with veggies and dairy. Fuck off prices are not down lol

Just saw a box of chocolate I usually buy (the movie theater box kind) was 1.24 at Walmart last week and this week it’s 1.48. That’s a 20% increase overnight, I’ve noticed a lot of stuff increase up to 10% in the last month or two.

My Walmart has just started installing digital price tags, so I look forward to more increases coming soon.

  9. Maybe down for him because he just order food with a phone call to a staff member and he doesn’t get a bill for it

Yes, we but groceries all the time! The prices are absolutely not coming down! tRUMP is good at one thing, lying!

  11. once_again_asking on

No, Americans don’t buy it. Because they don’t have any money left after grocery shopping.

Are news sites allergic to stating truths?

The title of this article should read:

“Trump lies that grocery prices are down. Why do Americans allow the President to lie?”

  13. Eggs were almost $15 a dozen from the local grocery so I went to Costco instead. They didn’t cost anything at all. I got all the eggs they had and didn’t pay a penny. I still don’t have any eggs but if they don’t have any to sell then they don’t cost anything, right?

  14. smalltownlargefry on

Anyone who’s been to a grocery store knows that bullshit isn’t true. They’ve risen. I just paid two dollars for a single bell pepper, like fuck off.

  15. monsieur-escargot on

LOL no. I bought 2 peaches, cottage cheese, 12 eggs, and Greek yogurt and it cost $35.

  16. Costco eggs were $4 for 2 dozen two years ago. $9 now. I am talking white eggs, not the fancy brown eggs. FU 47
