  1. From the article:

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, the far-right Georgia Republican who has grown increasingly disillusioned with the G.O.P. and President Trump, said on Friday that her own party was at least partly to blame for the government shutdown, and that it had the power to unilaterally reopen the government.

“If Republican Senators wanted to pass the C.R.,” Ms. Greene said on social media, referring to the funding bill, “and reopen the government they could, by using the nuclear option.”

The “nuclear option” that Ms. Greene referred to is a proposal for Senate Republicans to lower the threshold for advancing legislation from 60 votes to a simple majority of 50. Senate Democrats and Republicans have lowered that threshold for specific votes in previous terms, chipping away at longstanding legislative precedent by making it easier to advance judicial nominees.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day right?

Republicans wanted the shutdown in order to block / delay any vote on releasing the Epstein files.

  3. MTG being the MAGA voice of reason is something I don’t think anyone ever had on their bingo card.

  4. She is not criticizing them for the shutdown.

She is criticizing them for not changing the rules to a simple majority and slamming the resolution through.

In other words, she wants exactly opposite of the bipartisan outcome desired by the Democrats.

Yeah so she’s not arguing from some kind of principled point of view of whatever.

“In a social media post, the far-right Georgia congresswoman called on Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster, lowering the threshold on future legislation to a simple majority.”

She wants to change the rules so the current regime can just ram through anything they want.

The nuclear option is an option of last resort for the senate GOP. I don’t want them to go nuclear but if the shutdown drags on for a month, then unfortunately the GOP may have to change the rules again and it’s bad for democracy. Let both parties sort out the options, maybe some horse trading

  7. This is a trap. Has to be. Haven’t figured out what the end goal is though. But her, doing this? Has to be a trap

  8. It’s incredibly disturbing and telling that “space lasers” Green is the voice of reason for the party.

As one can see, it is possible to stand on your own feet and hold your seat in Congress without kissing the ring. Trump is not right nor infallible in all things. And the party line is not always right in either party.

  10. Is this stance really a winning strategy for the Republicans to run on throughout the US in the Midterms next year? Does assuring that your Health Care Premiums are much, much more expensive for millions of Americans really going to win them more votes?

  11. She’s always had a big mouth but never backs it up with votes against her own party.

  12. Do people not understand that she isn’t being the “voice of reason” here? She’s not criticizing them for failing to negotiate, or failing to protect healthcare access.

She’s criticizing them for not being MAGA enough or ruthless enough to use the nuclear option, and eliminate the filibuster in order to pass the MAGA bill without ANY negotiations or input from Democrats.

She’s not the voice of reason, she’s saying that they’re wrong for not steamrolling the minority party and governing solely from the majority.
