    Adam Smith and others saw heavy-handed state intervention in the economy as a death-trap, propping up uneconomic industries and shutting out innovative and off-shore competition.

    Whatever is wrong with capitalism in its present incarnation will not be fixed by a return to the corrupt practices of the regimes that preceded it.
