  1. **From reporter Katherine Speller:**

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller had a “glitch” on CNN that had legal experts and other viewers raising their brows.

Miller was discussing whether Trump has the legal ability to send National Guard troops into Portland, Oregon, and briefly (and incorrectly) asserted that “under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, the president has plenary authority.” He began another thought before abruptly stopping.

What followed was a long pause with nearly 10 seconds of dead air. Host Boris Sanchez tried to confirm the connection was still working and then cut to a commercial break.

Here’s a link to the full article: [https://www.huffpost.com/entry/stephen-miller-plenary-authority-cnn-glitch-body-language_l_68e816dbe4b0972b77591c1b?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=us_main](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/stephen-miller-plenary-authority-cnn-glitch-body-language_l_68e816dbe4b0972b77591c1b?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=us_main)

  2. I swear these gaffs are intentional. This might have received some attention if he just cruised through saying that but even I had to look up what plenary meant.

Him making it ridiculous led to me learning way more about what he’s talking about and understanding the gravity than if I just saw some reporting of a weird gaff or outrageous statement from Steven Miller

It would make sense that he’s one of the lizard people we’ve been hearing about.

  4. My theory is that there is someone we don’t know of attempting to coordinate messaging. That person heard him say “Plenary authority” and started screaming into his earpiece to STFU because that’s only something they are supposed to say behind closed doors. He panicked and shut down.

It’s not some big mystery. He fucked up. He said the thing that they’re talking about privately that was supposed to be slowly disseminated through a process and someone in his earpiece started screaming at him to shut up, so he did. He just decided that pretending that there was an equipment failure would let him play it off. And the worst part is that he was right. Cut to commercial, come back, apologize for the “technical problem”, then immediately change the subject with zero follow-ups about the whole ultimate power thing. Body language experts weren’t required for this.

  6. This dehumanizing language is too damn much. “He’s a lizard, he’s a reptloid.” “He’s not human.”

He is something much worse than an animal. He’s a fascist. An animal that means you harm is protecting itself, feeding itself, or diseased. A fascist wishes you harm because you are not them. It’s a uniquely human failure. Animals are not capable of good or evil, humans are, and fascists see all the evil done before them and consider that a torch worth picking up. They are evil because they want to be, because they chose to be. Not because they don’t actually believe the evil before occurred, but because they consider it improperly executed. They can be evil better.

  7. I think someone off camera in the studio with him, or in his ear, started yelling at him, “You can’t say THAT!!”

  8. I’m guessing someone was chewing him out over an ear piece after he said that, and he didn’t know what to do other than to listen to his handler in the ear piece.

Live TV can be delayed and live edited. He was probably being quiet hoping the editor would crop out the whoopsie. Staying still often helps with transitional effects as it can appear he was just listening.

Seems more likely he is just an asshole who realized he said the wrong thing and couldn’t recover this train of thought gracefully.

He’s not some expert speaker or anything, he’s a racist twat that achieved a position power. Him fucking up in an interview doesn’t need professional analysis

  11. Body language analysis is a pseudoscience. The supposed “experts” gain attention by validating the prejudices that people already had with a scientific veneer. This happens on all sides of the political spectrum.

Stephen Miller is a profoundly evil man, but, rarely for the Trump regime, actually fairly competent. He didn’t glitch. He misspoke, and then went quiet to force CNN to redo the take. And CNN, being basically giant captured pussies, went along with it.

  12. Body-language “expertise” is a pseudo-science… and that whole “reptilian brain thingy” is bullshit.

He either had an earpiece or someone signal to shut up, or he realized on his own and just went into freeze mode (fight, flight, freeze). It’s happened to me in an interview where I said something I realized was inappropriate or didn’t make sense and I just froze and then ended the call.

  14. AcanthisittaNo6653 on

    >there was a different, incorrect audio feed playing in Miller’s inner ear monitor at the time of the “glitch.”)

At least the voice in his ear didn’t say “release the Kraken”

  15. The thing that’s absurd to me is that Miller had this dramatic moment after he said that

(watch it if you haven’t. Insane. Dead silent. Like 20 full seconds. Mid-sentence. While the anchor says “Stephen? Sephen are you there? Stephen? Stephen?”)

But if he didn’t do that, there would hardly have been any coverage of him insisting Trump has plenary authority.

What was he so scared of?

I think someone probably told him never to assert that publicly because it would destroy some vital legal argument they are hoping to make in the future. Maybe some kind of foundational lichpin for project 2025.

  16. Stephen Miller is an UNELECTED wannabe tough guy and a bitch. He will never be safe in this country once all is said and done with this MAGA filth. Miller will not be forgiven.

  17. Every stupid conspiracy theory is going to turn out to be true, but about the opposite people than the theorists thinks, isn’t it?

I mean, I know this isn’t actually about the reptilians from the hollow Earth, but I’m about ready to just accept it.

  18. TwistedPepperCan on

I think the meeting with the generals was a complete botch and now they are worried about a coup so this claim puts them all in jeopardy.

  19. Any sentence that begins with “Body language experts” is automatically bullshit. He fucked up on camera and had a mini freak out. It was extra weird looking g because he’s a weird guy. How do I get someone to pay me for saying that?

  20. Body language experts are almost universally unreliable. They are not permitted to testify in court.

  21. Are we seriously analyzing this?

The fucking dude pretended to freeze and CNN went along with it.

Why does everything require some weird analysis.  He said something he wasn’t supposed to and then pretended to freeze.

  22. He stopped talking because after he said “Plenary Authority” (effective dictatorial power), somebody told him to STFU IMMEDIATELY.

  23. NewAndImprovedJess on

Nah, he was only talking to trump through the TV. That interview was for an audience of one. Firm messaging that “you have absolute authority to do anything you want. Full stop. The end.”

  24. He knows what he said, he just realized it too late and then remembered he doesn’t have to explain himself or even continue talking to all of his lessers.  So he stopped.

  25. Somebody who mid-sized girls probably physically bullied in school. Americans are allowing this pasty midget loser to dismantle their country piece by piece with virtually no resistance.
