Not long ago, Marjorie Taylor Greene was a hard-line MAGA acolyte. Lately she’s been breaking with her party, Will Gottsegen writes in The Atlantic Daily.
“When she first ran for Congress, Greene was more known for her fanatical adherence to the QAnon conspiracy theory than for her vision for sound policy,” Gottsegen writes. But this summer, Greene has made a series of defections from her far-right political stance. She was the first Republican congressperson to call Israel’s actions a “genocide.” She has pushed for transparency on Jeffrey Epstein. She is now calling for an extension of provisions in the Affordable Care Act, breaking with her party over the central policy issue of the current government shutdown and creating ripples of anxiety throughout the broader MAGA movement.
“Greene is no Democrat: She believes that Obamacare created many of the problems with today’s health-insurance market,” Gottsegen writes. But she also believes that Republicans “have no new solution.” Lately, her impulse to go after both sides has left her very much on her own.
“The question is whether Greene’s actions are the result of genuine disenchantment with the congressional GOP and its mode of governing—an expression of the anti-establishment spirit that got her elected in the first place—or just political maneuvering,” Gottsegen writes.

My thoughts are that she wants to run for govenor of georgia with Kemp term limited. Republican leadership is pressing her not to run, but the epstein files give her a wedge issue to use to have a clear path to winning the primary and then take her chances.

Imo it’s likely she never cared that much for Trump, she’s from rural Georgia and I can’t imagine she really gives a fuck about a carpet-bagging Yankee. She is more in tune with her constituents than most, and she will say or do whatever she thinks they want. A year ago, they were all aboard the MAGA train, but her shifting away may be a predictor that rural southerners are turning away from Trump. Even though I disagree with almost everything about her, I think she probably does her job very well in the sense that she is giving her constituents the representation they want.

First, like most “conservatives” until something affects HER personally, she can’t see another view point. Her kids are 27 now, they can’t be on her insurance anymore. So since she raised idiot morons who can’t take care of themselves, she now has to pay for their new insurance off the ACA (Obamacare) exchanges and now she is pissed that they are not extending the subsidies for low and middle income folks, which means the cost of those for profit insurance plans is about to double.
Second, she is under the fantasy that she has a shot to run against Ossoff next year for the Georgia Senate seat. Her team has told her she needs to dial back the crazy and begin to distance herself from Trump or she won’t even make it out of the primary.
Finally, She really wants to see the Epstein files. Now, she believes that Trump is the hero of the story that he helped save young woman from Epstein and wants to see the names of all the Jews and Democrats that Epstein provided young girls too.

I’m hoping the senate snub and the DHS cabinet position snub were enough of a wake up call that she was loyal af but it wasn’t being returned were enough to question a few things. Also that Trump still has loomer in his camp but refuses to stand up for MTG seems to be a factor.
Finally seeing dear leader as fallible could be leading to a sort of slow waking up sort of thing where she isn’t thinking what weird scenario should I post to support Trump, and why did I ever think those things anyway.
