Term limits! But those lifer’s in Congress would never vote for losing their cushy job, funded by tax payers.

We have a minimum age to serve in Congress; it is *not* “ageist” to institute a maximum age. Get these fossils the hell out of government.

He’s right but he isn’t the one to replace Markey. I’d be horrified if Seth wins.

I love Markey but he needs a successor. So frustrating how little good dems set up the next gen. Shitty dems are great at creating their minions (Jeffries for Pelosi and Slotkins for Schumer)

  4. No surprise that centrist dogs are trying to jump on the bandwagon of age instead of actually creating good policy

  5. Open primaries and let the voters decide. I think it’s unlikely they’ll elect an 80yo in this climate but let’s find out.

  6. Markey >> Moulton

Age is just a proxy for the real problem: old ideas. Centrists like Moulton are middle-aged puppets for zombie dinosaur ideas of the Clinton/Obama era Democratic Party.

65 years old is the cut off to get on disability in the US. I think if youre too old to get on disability (which disability isnt designed to see how disabled you are, it’s if you can still work) then youre too old to serve the country.

  8. I hate to be an ageist, but enough is enough. You’ve made millions in politics, please retire and let younger minds prevail.

He’s going to lose because older people are the most reliable voter an they will resent him for this.

  10. These elders should retire and enjoy their lives after 70. It’s a shame to die in office. They have served long enough. It’s time for the new generations to step up and lead.

  11. Mass Dems are lining up behind Markey, same as Dems lined up behind Biden and Dems supported Ruth Bader Ginsberg to stay on the bench. But THIS time, Dems say it will be different.

The problem is Moulton is a milquetoast moderate that already proved he’s not interesting enough to make a splash in a big race or lead us in the right direction. I hate that Markey is running again but he’s the only progressive in the race with a fighting chance

  13. There should not be any serving elected officials older than the retirement age. Retire, and let the younger people that will have to live with their decisions make the decisions.

There is an age minimum for being elected to various offices; why should there not be an age maximum?

  14. 100%. But we also don’t want neolibs replacing progressives. Markey should retire, Ayanna Presley should run to replace him. 2026 is the perfect storm for her if he gets out of the way. Moulton will be MA’s next Senator over my dead body.

  15. Term limits as well, we shouldn’t be seeing the same people in elected positions for decades.

  16. I was actually talking to my mother about it this morning

How it makes no sense to have such old people at the top of the government

You can tell most don’t have all their mental or physical faculties for such commitment and work load

  17. Fuck this. I’m 80+ and it’s too old to be a senator or have any important job in government as doing a good job requires energy, burning the midnight oil at times and studying a lot of current events. You get tired and achy after 75 or so and are just not at your physical/mental peak.

  18. Maximum age limit, term limits and no consecutive terms. This should be the standard for EVERY elected office.

  19. DNC should have a policy that if you’ll be 65 during an upcoming term, you must have a chosen successor that you’re mentoring.

We need continuity, and we need fresh blood.

    Maine chiming in.

    We have damnit Janet

    and sympathy Susan.

both are old as fuck and need to go

  21. hanoverfiste23 on

We need term limits. No one should get to stay in office indefinitely. No career politicians.

  22. Make mandatory retirement age the average life expectancy of the country. They’ll get us healthcare and cures for cancer really fast

  23. You guys always whine about old politicians yet continuously glaze Bernie Sanders.

    Pick a lane.

  24. We don’t let octogenarians drive, yet we let them run our country! I’m all for a new, younger generation of leaders to step in.

  25. nasorrty346tfrgser on

Not only senator, any elected position should be included as well.

We got like multiple house representatives died this year, literally just a few months after they won the last election. Stupid as hell

  26. He is right. No one over 65 should be running a country. They should be retired and playing golf.
