  1. As per the original article:

President Trump outlined his demands for China to avoid a 100% tariff hike next month, calling for more U.S. soybean purchases and action on fentanyl, while insisting Beijing “has to give us things” in return for easing trade tensions. Yet China’s growing economic strength has undercut Washington’s leverage: Chinese GDP rose 5.2% in the first three quarters of 2025, and exports to non-U.S. markets surged 14.8% even as shipments to America fell. Beijing’s diversification strategy suggests it is weathering the tariff war far better than Trump may have anticipated.

This weekend President Trump laid down the law on what he wants from China in order to ease restrictions in the tit-for-tat tariff war which has been ramping up since he returned to the Oval Office. But for all the president’s demands, his leverage over Beijing is showing cracks as the Chinese economy continues to go from strength to strength.

China now knows that the US needs China more than China needs the US.

Every Republican Policy since Ike has been a failure.

  3. In the face of abject failure trump will double down and make things worse.

That’s what he does, that’s what all the maga do. They refuse to accept compromise or defeat. So they “fight fight fight” even harder to obfuscate the truth in favor of an alternate narrative maintained within a bias-confirming misinformation bubble that pushes the truth to the outside. Once the truth has been removed from the bubble it almost certainly will never re-enter.

These tariffs will kill the country and trump still won’t back down.

Trump has successfully accelerated the decline of the US and the preeminence of China.

    Congratulations, rubes, you got played.

  5. The article would be much shorter if the author realised that Trump is incapable of anticipation. The jury is still out on his mastery of object permanence.

The Art of the Deal strikes again. Republicans are terrible domestic policy makers because they serve their donors, not their constituents. China knows this. In a long game, China will win.

Creating trade policy through social media posts at 3 a.m. while sitting on the toilet horribly constipated is not how things should be done.

Trump can’t even spell the word “anticipated” and I don’t think he has the capacity to plan his next dump let alone an economic/geopolitical trade war.

  12. China plans its economy out for decades/centuries at a time. We in the US have been chasing cheap, partisan, instant gratification the whole 21st century while not making any long-term gains–and this is a flaw in both parties. Our Dem leadership has fallen into Reaganomic traps and now thinks entirely in polls and quarterly shareholder returns, and I had no faith in their ability to compete with china. Even if Trump weren’t maybe the most incompetent leader in world history, we were going to get our ass kicked in this showdown eventually. Sad to see the moment finally coming.

  13. China’s government may be undemocratic and authoritarian, but they aren’t dribbling morons like Trump and his cronies.

  14. Better than Trump anticipated? Does anyone think Trump is watching a panel of key economic indicators and strategically modifying policy according to broad US economic interests? Fuck no! That’s for Democrats and pussies! Trump gets some crazy idea that passes between his ears like a fart and belches it out in an incomprehensible babble. Then his minions try to turn that nonsense into some tortured version of a policy.
Of course China is going to win. That was the point.
