  1. I can’t count the number of times I accidentally got a nazi tattoo. It just happens people.

  2. In [an extended interview on “Pod Save America”](https://youtu.be/uMnc4ddc7j4?si=ZJk7_T4ozUDAnIMA) that first aired Monday night, Platner said he and some fellow Marines got a skull tattoo while drunk on leave in Croatia in 2006, without knowing that it was associated with the Nazis.

“We got very inebriated, and we did what Marines on liberty do, and we decided to go get a tattoo,” Platner said. “We chose a terrifying looking skull and crossbones off the wall because we were Marines and, you know, skulls and crossbones are pretty standard military thing.”

  3. Anyone with Nazi tattoos should be disqualified for any public office or federal employment. I don’t care if you’re a “Democrat” or a “Republican” – ALL of you should be shamed into hiding. Fuck Nazis. I’m looking at you, too, Hegseth.

Everything this guy says seems true and normal. Like a guy contending with his past. I don’t care about this, or about his time working for blackwater (6 mos), or even his reddit comments. They can all be attributed to growing up.

I just find myself expecting him to become Fetterman 2.0

  5. Fun story: I once randomly walked into a neighborhood dive in Eastern Europe only to realize it was a Nazi bar. By the time I got a closer look at all the goofy fascist shit on the walls, I already had a drink in my hand. I chatted with some of the patrons about metal music, finished my beer and saw my way out.

As a Jewish dude, probably not my smartest move. Though luckily, I don’t stand out.

So.. to me, it’s completely plausible for a couple of drunk jarheads to get regrettable tattoos without putting 2+2 together.

The *problem* is the fact that he’s had the tattoo for 20 years. That is more than enough time to learn about it – and then coverup/removal. C’mon dude..

Platner claimed in a reddit post he’d have happily fought in the Phillipine American war and the banana wars.  You’ve got to have a pretty deep grasp on military history to even know what those are.  He recognized the totenkopf.

  7. This guy is too dumb to be a politician if he didn’t even think to get his Nazi tat covered before running, regardless of his actual beliefs

On leave in Croatia, a country that enthusiastically joined forces with Hitler, he gets a Nazi tattoo to celebrate the local flavor.

  9. I drink. Sometimes I get drunk. Still, I’m smart enough not to get a tattoo when I’m in that condition. A tattoo is something you feel so deeply about that you make it part of your body. It’s not a bumper sticker.

‘The first 3 tours were a mistake!’ ‘My time working for Blackwater in Afghanistan was also a mistake!’

  11. Not the kind of defense a lawyer would advise you to make: “I can honestly say that if I was trying to hide it, I’ve not been doing a very good job for the past 18 years.”

  12. Had he came out early on in his campaign and addressed all the skeletons in his closet like this in a genuine and authentic manner – this would be a non issue. The dude was super exciting to hear talk, and his positions were exactly what we need right now to engage the working class away from the lure of the fascist regime that promises them the world while cutting their legs out from under them. I’m so frustrated by the constant disappointment we see with candidates like this. You don’t talk about who you really are and the road you traveled to get there until the heat gets turned on the worst aspects of yourself.

Ill be honest, im not sure Id have recognized a Totenkopf myself if I had decided to get one as a tattoo.

On the other hand, given the number of people who comment on my tattoo (an icon from a video game) I find it highly unlikely this guy made it 19 years without someone saying something, especially since after that long its likely hes had some touch up work.

Literally yesterday I was crushed for saying it’s a good thing he’s being vetted and that simply hand waving away everything surrounding him was a mistake.

One day later? Huh, looks like I might have been on to something.

Campaign is cooked a week into oppo research from Dems, Republicans will eat this dude alive.

a drunk mistake, but he didn’t get it removed? I’m sorry but between him serving in the PMC group formerly known as Blackwater, and this, he’s sus as fuck. Any support I had for him is gone now. We need an progressive running in Maine that doesn’t a fucking nazi tattoo or a dem that would be like 80 years old when she get elected

  16. He could have had it covered or removed. I’m telling everyone right now this guy is fool’s gold. He’s another magat pretending to be a Democrat and if/when he gets elected he’s NOT going to be the politician on your side you think he will be.

This happens all the goddamn time. Democrats get
played and they *never fucking learn.*

  17. purplebrown_updown on

Dear god. We don’t have to compromise on a candidate like in 2024. He’s done. There are a million other candidates that don’t have Nazi tattoos. Fuck this guy. And I donated to him. Want my money back.

  18. JAGERminJensen on

Drunken mistake? Uhh yeah, you could say that. But at what point before he sobers up and has it covered? I can’t imagine this was a mere drunken mistake, but even if it were, he’d of had it removed and/or covered shortly thereafter…

  19. TraditionalCopy6981 on

Beginning to wonder if he’s going to do a Fetterman….get elected and switch?

  20. I don’t know much about this dude but drunkenly getting a Nazi adjacent tattoo – he’s probably not someone I would rely on for their judgement.

  21. But he’s had 18 years to learn what it really was and remove/cover it up. So he’s either fine with nazi imagery or is stupid.

  22. Scary_Importance_196 on

Drunk or not…it’s pretty easy to avoid getting a nazi tattoo. I’ve gone 44 years without this happening to me.
It’s not a thing that happens when you drink unless you ask for it.
