  1. Concepts of a ballroom I guess. What a disastrous administration. The actual scum of the Earth are running this country. We didn’t even get the cheap eggs and gas, only a mess a wreck.

  2. That was ‘the plan.’ Now that the White House has been destroyed taxpayers have to cough up the money to fix it.

  3. Should be illegal. It’s not his personal residence.

It belongs to the United States of America.

Bet there isn’t even an architect yet. The construction company was probably just told to “make a ballroom about 250 by 360 feet, with some nice windows, and make it attach somehow to the east wing”.

Just for shits and giggles, already knowing what it would provide, I asked ChatGPT “Can a U.S. president make alterations to the White House structure by tearing some of it down to make room for additional buildings without obtaining permits or going through National Parks and accepting petitions,” and the short answer was “no.”

Clearly, ChatGPT doesn’t live in our present timeline.

  6. If Trump’s is so confident in his project, why the Rushton demolish before getting approvals? Something doesn’t just add up

    This one’s just weird…

Like, if he’s going to build an extravagant ballroom, whatever. I mean, it’s dumb, unnecessary, disrespectful to the history of the place, etc, but it would definitely rate among the very least terrible things his regime has done.

But just knocking down walls without a plan, without contracting an A-list architectural firm to draw up plans, getting construction vendors, etc… it’s just fucking weird.

Maybe he’s just an incompetent, impulsive idiot. I mean, not *maybe*. But is that all that’s at play here?

Maybe his handlers are just letting him do whatever without question to keep him out of the grownups’ hair while they destroy democracy. Or, maybe, nature’s knocking on the door and he knows he doesn’t have time for a legitimate design and construction project?

  8. “It’s fantastic. You can do whatever you want. You can just grab Congress by the pussy and they let you do it!”

*”’While many presidents have dreamt about this, it is actually President Trump who is actually doing something about it. And he is the builder-in-chief. In large part, he was re-elected to this people’s house because he is good at building things,’ Leavitt said”*

He is good at destroying things and walking away with other people’s money. Hard stop.

I would so love it if some historical presevation society (or similar) sued to halt the whole project and held it up for months if not years.

  11. They’ll pocket the “donations”, leave the east wing facade covered in a tarp, and then blame Democrats for it somehow.

  12. It’s a good representation of American democracy. One person capable of destroying it and there are no checks and balances in place to stop it.

  13. You wanna know about a crazy difference?
When Ronald Reagan said “tear down this wall” he was putting a halt to communism in the Soviet Union. When Trump says it, he’s building a ballroom in the FUCKING WHITEHOUSE.

  14. This is insane. He has no right to do any of this. Just think if this were Clinton, Obama, or Biden, the uproar from Republicans would be deafening.

*The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a leading historic preservation non-profit created by Congress, told the White House that demolition plans were “legally required” to go through public review and urged Trump to pause demolition.*

*“We are deeply concerned that the massing height of the proposed new construction will overwhelm the White House itself – it is 55,000 sq ft – and may also permanently disrupt carefully balanced classical design of the White House with its two smaller, and lower, East and West Wings,”*

  15. This is a narcissistic response of destroying something important to inflict pain and feel powerful. Buildings can be rebuilt. Trump is a pathetic piece of shit. Stay focused everyone!

  16. Even if they’re build it the way they want to, there is zero chance they finish it by July 4th. So the entire building is going to be covered in scaffolding for their stupid fucking UFC fight.

Unless trump makes them half ass it, which im on moderately high confidence they will.

  17. So… turns out they didn’t get any sort of approval and they’re just gonna have to rebuild that east wing as it was.

  18. Intelligent-Alps2373 on

Well considering they just DESTROYED THE ENTIRE EASY WING. I don’t think they care even a little about having plans

  19. ACECO is a nearly 100 year old family business. Destroyed almost immediately the second people realized they were the company that accepted the bid to demolish part of the White House. I doubt they’ll recover from that.

It’s a symbolic move on his part, period. It screams: “This is what I really think about democracy, America, and the American people”. He hates ALL of you. He HATES democracy. He wrecks Democracy with a bulldozer and he is doing it right in front of our eyes.
