Donald Trump is exhibiting a “massive increase” in “clinical signs of dementia,” exacerbating the president’s “malignant narcissism,” a psychologist has warned.
Dr. John Gartner told The Daily Beast Podcast that the 79 year old’s nonsensical speeches, repeated confusion, and frequent lapses in memory are flashing signs of his “immense cognitive decline.”
The former Johns Hopkins professor said the president’s deterioration is only disinhibiting his “grandiosity” and “paranoia” and warned that, with the nuclear football in Trump’s possession, “It really would be impossible to overstate the grave risk that all of us are at right now.”

Calling it a “collapse” implies something had been built up to begin with. This is absolutely not the case.

Our country is celebrating 250 years as a nation and we’re at the mercy of third rate authoritarian Trump’s bottomless pit of stupidity, as the very same nation watches Trump destroy almost one fifth of the White House. “The East Wing makes up approximately 17.6% of the White House’s total floor space (12,000 square feet / 68,000 square feet)”. Yet the irony of the symbolism of what Trump is doing to our democracy at the same time as we helplessly watch fails to register with the average “too busy to care” person on the street (almost 7 million people that voted for Biden in 2020 failed to turn out for Harris in 2024 giving Trump the election, ironically the same number of people that turned out for the NO KINGS 2 protest on October 18, 2025). And if Trump is slowly descending into his genetically inherited dementia his cabinet will not invoke the 25th amendment, god help us.

That wasn’t too scary a read until I got to the part about him doing something “Catastrophic”! At first I dismissed that because there’s no way his cabinet could be dumb enough to let that happen.
Then I remembered who his cabinet is and the fact that the military is just going along with his insanity, Then I got a chill.

Dr John Gartner’s been warning of Trump’s dementia and malignant narcissism for years now along with others such as his colleague Dr Harry Segal. They had a podcast they recently stopped doing after being told they’re targets with the media crackdown. Dr Harry Segal has decided not to risk talking about Trump anymore.

A.K.A: How to evaluate fitness of an elected official (or candidate for office)
1. If he was your aged uncle, would you be considering some sort of intervention?
2. Would you let him be alone with:
– your small children,
– your pubescent daughter?
– Your checkbook/finances?
– The keys to your car?

It’s clear to the rest of the world that he’s drooling, nasty, POS. He should be nowhere near the presidency. He’s still a very dangerous man and is taking the USA down with him.

A psychologist can’t make a formal diagnosis of dementia. The article is snakeoil bullshit.

We deserve transparency about our leaders health. If there’s even a hint of cognitive decline, it’s worth investigating

He could be drooling on the table and crapping his pants and Mike Johnson, his cabinet and Fox News would rationalize it all. Billionaires would contribute to his latest insane idea (e.g., White House moved to the Moon) to gather favor and The NY Times and Washington Post would normalize it. Meanwhile the quality of life for the 95% will continue to decline. Mad King Trump will only be gone when citizens stand up to him. So get up… Protest! Vote!

While in this particular instance the diagnosis may well be justified (confirming what we can all see with our own eyes), publicly commenting on it when the subject is not their patient is still an ethics violation under the [Goldwater Rule](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldwater_rule) and really shouldn’t be published. I’m just generally wary of news organisations using unconfirmed mental health conditions as a stick to beat anyone with.
Edit to add: I appreciate that the Goldwater Rule applies to psychiatrists and not psychologists, but I believe that the rule should be pretty universal for any medical condition. You’ll always find a quack who will remotely “diagnose” any condition on anyone.

It is unethical for a psychologist to make such pronouncements without ever examining Mr trump

It’s not that I disagree, but are there any sort of ethical considerations for psychologists when diagnosing someone who hasn’t agreed to be their patient using only publicly available footage? It doesn’t feel quite right.
