How can they even think they have a chance to do that. They cannot circumvent the will of the people’s.

GOP: I know… we’ll call it “states” rights. That way we can use the Constitution to stop the feds from interfering in local racism, but only when it comes to white racism. If there is some uppity brown people gaining power we’re just going to throw that shit right out the window.

Literally thwarting the will of the people, denying them the vote by simply refusing to go along with the outcome. “Democracy” to them means calling all the shots, all the time, everywhere.

I hope Mamdani has top notch security to keep him safe every minute of every day. I could see the opponents taking a page out of Putin’s book. Stay safe, sir.

Not that our electoral system is perfect in Canada (far from it) but it seems absolutely insane to me that a federal government could step in and prevent a locally elected mayor from being sworn into office.

  6. Im genuinely astonished by how much folks are freaking out about him – mayor of NYC isn’t a tiny job, sure, but his ability to actually make sweeping changes will be limited.

  7. If they used just ten percent of this energy to help people instead of undermining the system people would be a lot better off

  8. This sort of thing is what Republicans always do. They pick a new boogeyman and they whip their voters up into a frenzy about it. When one thing gets old they just hunt for a new thing to become frenzied about.

So at the moment Mamdani is the frenzy focus. In a few months they will have moved on.

  9. Democracy means honouring an election even if – especially if – you don’t like the person elected.

Republicans, starting with Donald Trump, obviously don’t believe in Democracy.

  10. Anyone who supports actions like these is not only unpatriotic but are treasonous bastards.

If the rest of the country doesn’t wake up from this administration then democracy can be kisses goodbye (that’s assuming we even have an election in 2028)

  11. I do not get the logic here at all. New York City is a city within the State of New York. How can this crazy theory be applied to a city election? Im seriously trying to understand. The math is not working out. It has nothing to do with federal government.

  12. If I knew NOTHING else and have never heard his name before, I would automatically assume this man was the next coming of Jesus, politically.

If the terrorist modern republicans hate him, they are worried he will stand up to them.

  13. Ok now I’m like really worried for his life because these billionaires are throwing so much money against him. Republicans and corporate Democrats can’t convince people that I have a bad feeling they only have one option left…

every one of their “ideas” is stupidly corrupt. Gotta say, some days its the stupidity even more than the corruption.

  15. I don’t get it. If he truly will be bad for NYC let them elect him and everyone will find out. Not like he will have the nuclear codes or anything.

I have never even been to New York but I hope he wins. He is making them nervous as hell and I am here for it.

  17. Mamdani can’t make the same mistake. Winning the election is what gives you the power of office. The swearing in is a procedural thing. They can’t delay. He should just get to work and do what they do to us, just ignore the GOP games.

“House Republicans exploring new ways to break the law and enable fascism”.

    There. Fixed the headline.

  19. To make this happen (it won’t) the House would need to reconvene to hold the vote. And to reconvene they’d need to swear in Grijalva, and she has said she’d be the final signature needed to vote on releasing the Epstein files.

The big brains on these Nazis. Are Young Republicans clubs across the country made up solely of the Nazi characters from Hogans Heroes?
