That’s normal. Historically, the party that takes the White House loses some seats in Congress come the midterms. The GOP knows this and that’s why the GOP controlled states are redistricting specifically to gain GOP seats in congress and maintain dominance in Congress.

This is (almost) as irrelevant as a presidential candidate’s nationwide polls.
It’s possible the 435 elections will hew pretty close to national polls, but there’s no reason they have to.

I would love to see the Dems rally around a future oriented optimistic message. We’ll be well into a recession come midterms, however. And possibly at war with Venezuela, MX and Nigeria as well. So I’m not what case for optimism can be built with that as a backdrop but I guess we’ll just try our best.
