  1. From reporter Igor Bobic:

The major Democratic victories in Tuesday’s elections across the country could give Senate Democrats more ground to hold firm in their demands for health care protections for millions of Americans as the government shutdown drags on into its second month.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called the results in Virginia, New Jersey, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New York “a repudiation of the Trump agenda.”

Stand your ground Democrats! Give Republicans NOTHING, let them sink themselves. Soon as you get more power, dismantle them and serve the American people the right way.

  3. Millions of American lives. At least tens of, maybe even low hundreds of millions long term.

    Those are the reasons.

Not a small tax break for the rich.

    The choice is crystal clear.

  4. Public support is clearly on their side. Let the Republicans own the shit they’ve dropped in their own pants.

  5. From the looks of things Republicans would need 6 more Democrat votes to open the government. Looks like Fetterman is already voting YES. I could see a couple moderate Democrats breaking lines and voting yes if I’m being honest.

  6. I’ve already called both my Senators and my Congress person explicitly telling them not to vote for any CR Bill put forward by Republicans unless it includes, as a bare minimum, a multi-year long extension of the Obamacare subsidies.

People are pissed at the shit show republicans have become and are throwing them out everywhere.

    Burn them to the ground!

  8. my take is now the election is over the dems will say let’s cave! They’re dumb af and now they don’t have a gun at their head by their base so they can back to doing nothing while saying they aren’t as bad as the other guys (true, but silly to lean on)

  9. Turns out when people have ro live with the type of government experience Republicans want to deliver they hate it.

The R’s have been standing outside tossing shit for so long, let them own the steaming pile they’ve created

As a federal government worker, this has been really tough. I had some recent issues that ate up a good chunk of my savings, so the timing of this really sucked. And now there’s talk of this lasting through Thanksgiving or even until next year. I frankly don’t really know what to do about it anymore. I’m a single income parent and really have few I can rely on in this way.

I’ve applied for unemployment and I’m looking for work to do in the meantime, but it’s kind of a bizarre middle ground where you still technically have a job and there’s rules about what I’m allowed to accept. And while I know it’s the law that we’re supposed to get backpay, I don’t trust this admin at all. They’re still actively trying to fire a lot of us and we’re going on essentially 11 months of them insulting and attacking our careers and integrity daily. From an individual perspective, it’s scary and support feels very thin.

All of that said, I don’t want Democrats to cave on this because I think it’s important. And honestly, if they just gave up after all this, it would be like a punch in the balls. I don’t want to deal with all of this for nothing.

  11. Mamdani’s victory directly came out of how many people are spoiling for an anti-establishment brawl. We despise Schumer, but we loathe Trump by a few magnitudes more. And oh god we all want to fight so badly. If we wanted to fight Schumer/Jeffries that badly, just imagine.

Now, the problem is going to come when people start going very hungry. We have to keep going because those same starving people are especially at risk of losing healthcare. So caving for short-term would kill them mid and long-term. But it’s going to really suck.

What’s that phrase? No society is more than three meals away from anarchy?

  12. Even Trump himself posted on Truth Social listing the shutdown as one of the reasons why Republicans lost bigly…

There is a legit non-zero chance that he will tell Congressional Republicans to stand down and start talking to Dems about ACA subsidies. This was never a hill he was willing to die on.

Schumer is going to roll over before thanksgiving. He needs to be stripped of leadership and primaried.

Looking forward to Mike Johnson saying he didn’t see the results and still try to say Dems are to blame for the shut down even though the public clearly just backed Dems.

  15. illtakeachinchilla on

Air Traffic Controllers are about to end the shut down. Duffy made that clear with his statements, today.

  16. clots_and_prayers on

Yeh. Dems should up their price now.

Like: yesterday we wanted medicaid/medicare funding only. Now its also aca/snap/… suck it republicans, you could have negotiated and agreed earlier.

  17. Darth_vaborbactam on

Don’t. Let. Up. This is not the time to be backing down or getting complacent. It’s the time to fight even harder. Tonight has shown republicans just how irrelevant they are. We’re tired of the bullshit and we want REAL FUCKING CHANGE.

  18. Republican Congress isnt even in session.

Republicans have about 57 votes in the senate, too. They’ve just refused to engage beyond the “sign here to open the gov” line

  19. I wish the Democrats would stand up and stop being such pathetic losers. I’m saying this from a perspective of hatred for MAGA. Why do the politicians on the “left” have to be such a bunch of fucking weak imbeciles.

Stand up and do your goddamn job.

  20. If democrats blink during this shutdown and get nothing then it will be the death of their party.

  21. With everything Orange Mussolini is threatening, if a government shutdown will hinder it, let it be.

  22. Dig in, sure. Dig in, and stand there to do nothing in practicality, sadly what will happen.

  23. Their stance is definitely not hurting them at the polls. It appears that GOP needs to come back to the table and fix ACA to get a fair deal for all Americans.

  24. Anyone with one eye and a few brain cells can see that they’re winning. Remind everyone that the GOP is holding fucking food assistance hostage in order to facilitate the end of goddamn insurance subsidies!

They’re making people go hungry so that the world’s most expensive health care system can, *guess what*, become 2-3x *more expensive*!

Oh and the Epstein thing too. The GOP has fucking nothing and they know it. Make them pay.

  25. ted_cruzs_micr0pen15 on

    Could?

It should. They were just given a resounding approval, even going so far as to say that democrats even more aggressive in their support for getting healthcare funded won resoundingly. Virginia, as a state, booted its AG so it could join the lawsuits… the dems need to hold steady and honestly intensify the rhetoric vilifying their colleagues across the aisle. The temperature needs to be turned to 11.

  26. And to think I just heard on the radio claims that Democrats were considering opening up again now that elections are over, and that SNAP recipients were “pawns”
