I think this could be the biggest turn of Congress during a mid term election since 2010 after Congress passed the ACA. Back then Congress flipped because people were angry 40 million Americans would be able to afford basic health insurance using government subsidies.
We’re way past that level of disapproval and have another year for this Administration to throw gas on the fire.

AOC needs to primary Schumer. I’ll donate to her run, and I don’t live in NY.

They need to run on getting rid of citizens United, increasing minimum wage with guarantees on it increasing every year with inflation, making DC and Puerto Rico states, codifying the gay marriage and a woman’s choice, and implementing smart tax reform that helps the workers and forces the ultra wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes.
Unfortunately, the established core of Dems already in power like how things are too much to truly want change that matters.

What we are gonna need to do is run a lot of independents who are gonna have to be framed as change candidates. That is they say they won’t vote for Schumer as speaker (maybe another Democrat). The same is true for democrats in tough races like the senate nominees for Alaska, Ohio, Maine, and North Carolina. The senate is very winnable and we aren’t going to fix the democratic brand internally before then, but elections themselves is how the brand changes. Also, we need to stop forcing candidates on areas that they don’t represent. Some places can get a democratic socialist, some places get the working class union guy, and some places get the CIA national security moderate where everyone across the country feels included.

I’m wondering if it’s too difficult to overcome this cycle. Bob Casey losing in Pennsylvania by that micro razor margin REALLY hurt Dems chances at taking back the senate this election cycle. That Green Party candidate accomplished her goal of siphoning off enough votes for him to lose.

Here’s a breakdown:
Current Senate:
Democrats 47 – 53 Republicans
Needed for a majority (51) –
Democrats must flip 4 seats. A tie would still result in Republican control with JD Vance casting the tie breaking vote.
Seats Dems are defending in states Trump won (expected to be competitive, winning these seats only means that Democrats remain at their current margin of 47): Michigan and Georgia
Democrats’ target states (these are highly competitive states in which Republicans are defending): Maine and North Carolina
Democrats’ best reaches (these are states that might be competitive but is still leaning/likely Republican): Ohio, Alaska, Texas, Iowa, and Florida.
If Dems win the target states that would only bring them to 49, which isn’t bad because it would give them an excellent shot at taking the Senate in 2028 when Republicans are defending Wisconsin and North Carolina.
The odds are heavily in the Republicans’ favor but never say never.
