And for those in the cheep seats this is why it is a Republican shutdown.
And I for one hope families that have no food to celebrate remember this when it comes time to vote.

And TACO is not on the ballet

  2. “hold a rare weekend session” – Do they get time-and-a-half for prolonging the shutdown?

  3. So if they agree and pass something does the house still have to come back and vote on it? So we will still be off work until everything is done.

  4. All of congress should be fined each day they don’t have a working government. And they should show up to work regardless.

  5. If TSA employees and ATCs have to work without pay (under the hanging threat that they won’t be retroactively reimubrsed) for a month and counting, the poor babies in Congress can work a weekend or two.

Airports should refuse to fly any congress member until they reopen *and* pay them back pay.

Tyrants, narcissistic bullies never compromise.  They live in a world of ONE.   Everyone else is used at their pleasure.

  8. Marie Antoinette  – ” Let them eat cake!”

Donald Trump – “Fuck that, let them starve!”

  9. Once the government goes back to work, The Trumpstein files are released, or at least back at the top of the news cycle. The government will *never* re-open.

  10. >Senate Republican leaders have signaled an openness to an emerging proposal from a small group of moderate Democrats to end the shutdown in exchange for a later vote on the “Obamacare” subsidies.

Don’t tell me Democrats are going to cave. It will be an insult to all of the people that have gone hungry because of the lapse in EBT payouts. Make it count for something at least. Republicans can’t be trusted to hold that vote and even if they do hold it, they’ll obviously vote no on extending the subsidies.

I would hazard a guess that there are more than a few countries with worse healthcare than provided in the ACA. Once again, Trump’s bloviating is tissue thin.

  12. Trump doesn’t care one iota about the shutdown. He’s fine just funding the military, ICE, and his ludicrous pet projects.

  13. Even if they manage to compromise and pass a bill this idiot will veto it. He doesn’t want congress in session. That would mean he has to deal with the Epstein files. He wants it to get bad, his mob wants it to get really bad. They want to take over and rule with a military iron hand.

  14. > a later vote on the ACA …

Come on Dems, are you not tired of playing Charlie Brown to the Republicans Lucy?

Hey, lets do the ACA vote first.

  15. For someone who claims to be a “great deal maker” he sure is doing a shit job demonstrating this skill.

How can the deal maker not want to make a deal?

It seems like the perfect arena to be a presidential problem solver. Ending the shutdown would be two wins – he could claim to be helping America while also sticking to the Dems.

But he’s settling for one win instead of going for the double-play because the double-play means giving a little. Even if he gets more out of solving the shutdown than not he would rather keep the government closed because it hurts “the enemy” more than solving it and making them look bad.

His ego is taking out his anger on the country, and the world at large. He raised an army that has seamlessly meshed far-right politics with his personality cult.

The shutdown isn’t GOP v. Dems, it’s maga v. America.

  16. In the 49 years since 1976, when Congress enacted the modern budget process, the government has been shut down 21 times for a grand total of 202 days (and counting).

Of those 202 days, Donald Trump has been the President for 76 of those days (and counting).

That’s almost 38% of the total time that the government has ever been shut down.

I’m old enough to remember when politicians had the decency to at least TRY acting ashamed of themselves. Forcing air traffic controllers to work without pay, denying food assistance to the working poor and disadvantaged, all in the name of raising healthcare premiums. And the only thing more gobsmacking than Republicans doing this while they literally DON’T DO THEIR FUCKING JOBS is the fact that they still have a voter base at all.

  17. We dont even need to do a general strike with the way these guys govern. The GOP is gonna crash the economy all on it own.

  18. This country is going to descend into chaos over the next couple weeks and these fucks will all be glad handing themselves at taxpayer funded steak dinners tonight.

Even Fox News is calling out the ridiculousness

“Republicans turn their attention to bashing Obamacare as shutdown enters day 39

Amid a 39-day government shutdown, Republican after Republican took to the Senate floor on Saturday to blast the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, calling the program a failed approach to addressing the country’s health care needs.

Notably, Republican criticisms of Obamacare on Saturday went beyond the front-and-center issue holding up consideration of government funding.

Although Sen. Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., has kept the Senate in session over the weekend while lawmakers attempt to break the gridlock, it’s unclear when lawmakers will next consider spending legislation. “

  20. Corrected headline: Trump signals from his golf cart on his golf course in Florida that he doesn’t want any compromise on the shutdown.
