  1. Lmao taking republicans at their word that they’d agree on a vote a month from now is comical

  2. Are they seriously going to cave for a “promise” to vote in December? When these traitors lie with every breath?

  3. IRefuseToGiveAName on

A pinky promise for a vote.

Isn’t that the same thing they got last time? How’d that go?

Edit: looks like this is still a little premature. This isn’t as close as the main source (axios) is implying.

Edit2: contact your senators *now*. It’s apparently somewhat likely at this point. They need to hear from us. Caving for a promise of NOTHING so people can have their fucking flights for Thanksgiving is absurd. The courts have already ordered SNAP funded and they told the courts to fuck themselves. There is NO guarantee SNAP gets funded if they give in.

People keep blaming Schumer for this (rightfully so) but if you READ the actual article, it’s not just Schumer. It says “a handful of democrats” because they are caving. They are freaking out about their constituents (even though this past election has shown the American people are in their side) and collapsing to corporate rich assholes. Schumer could still say no as the leader (he’s clearly not) but all they need is a handful of democrats to cave with the rest of the republicans. There are already a few that, from the beginning, have already been caving. This is what happened multiple times now since the beginning of the administration. It’s only a handful that cave and vote with the republicans.

So I want to make this VERY clear: Do not just blame Schumer. Blame ANY democrat who caves into this bullshit!

  5. Short term funding in exchange for a vote in December that will NOT get 60 votes. That’s way too lopsided. It’s stupid to cave in now just to lose more a few weeks down the road. There must at least be long term government funding involved.

  6. Dems caving for a Republican “promise” that isn’t worth the napkin it’s written on would be one of the worst political moves in history.

It should be career-ending for every single one of these people.

It WILL be life-ending for so many people who suffer under whatever the Republicans do next.

Schumer needs to go. The winds on their backs, and he caves for a pinky promise a month from now, not tied to anything. What a weak, pathetic excuse of a politician. And what a feckless collection of Senate Ds.

  8. gorillafightsurvivor on

The agreement to reopen the government is a verbal promise to hold a vote next month? Are you fucking serious?

Fuck Schumer and every single Dem on board with this.

  9. Schumer is fucking caving for nothing moderates once again fucking over the party. Call his office now

  10. Either Schumer caved or he doesn’t have the power to wield as party leader to hold the line.

Either way he’s got to go.

  11. This is stupid. What was the point of the last 40 days if all we get is a pinky promise for a vote? Grasping defeat from the jaws of victory, yet again.

  12. Much-Instruction-807 on

So democrats are going to cave and take the blame for the shutdown. This is so tiring. Democrats can always be counted on to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

  13. PraiseBeToScience on

Total cave by Schumer. After all this, after that massive election win, gives Trump everything he wants with nothing to show in return.

This is why you don’t blame the voters. Even when the voters hand Dems a clear mandate, their only instinct is to give it away.

  14. Every-Comfortable632 on

So I lost my career over a promise to for to vote that is clearly going to fail. Controlled opposition.

  15. I called his office unfortunately his box is full already. so i called my 2 senators and left a message they need to go pull him out of The negotiations immediately

  16. Caving after 40 days just to get nothing and to give up all of the leverage you have and give it to the GOP(who majority blame for the shutdown) only happens from stupidity or corruption. Any Senator who votes with the GOP will have me phone banking and even canvassing if I can for their primary opponents.

  17. Am I reading that one of the stipulations is a promise to vote on subsidies in December? A promise? From the GOP? This is Charlie Brown trying to kick the football again.

  18. CrimsonHeretic on

Let’s call this what it is.

Voters just overwhelmingly voted to basically say “fuck Republicans and fuck what’s going on right now”, and the response from corporate Democrats like Schumer and Jeffries is, “let’s make a deal with Republicans.”

You can’t make this shit up.

  19. TheMoorNextDoor on

Fuck them they really caved.. smh

Yes I want people to eat and I want people to be paid but god damn they likely won’t renew these premiums they might very well likely get rid of the filibuster because they know they can’t win the midterms as of now.

And with them doing that they’ll do everything in their power to stop democrats from ever getting in power again. There’s nothing they’ll be bringing up.

You just had a historic win and you cave like this only for them to get the upper hand come December?

    Fuck Chuck.

  20. VanguardAvenger on

So if I understand this deal correctly:

    1) Republicans get everything they wanted.

    2) Some additions are inserted to fully fund parts of the government through the end of the year, specifically the parts that people got upset about this time, so effectively removing any leverage to get the Republicans to negotiate again in January.

    3) Dems get a promised vote that even if it happens wont pass.

All Im saying is, Democrats are incredibly lucky the opposition are literal authoritarian racist nazis, or no one would evet vote for them

  21. HEYYYYYYYY_SATAN on

    “Promise”

This is so on brand for the elder Dems. Can’t wait for the shocked pikachu face that’s coming.

Chuck Schumer will be lumped in with the Republicans who have blood on their hands when so many people die because of this stupid bill.

  22. Am I reading this right? They’re severing the ACA issue from the bill to be voted on separately in December? So they gave up all the leverage they had for a bill in December that will never pass because it needs 60 votes or maybe even not be brought to a vote and now we’re back to no one being able to afford health care? That’s what I’m reading?
