  1. The only good thing that can come from this is the immediate end of Chuck Schumer’s political career.

  2. And still we need to blame republicans because they forced this insane choice in the first place.

  3. The thing is, this response was not just entirely predictable, I am sure phones were ringing off the hook in D Senate offices yesterday afternoon *before* the “deal” was struck.

Schumer *et al* simply did not give a fuck.

  4. Need to blame centrist/moderates for this. Democrats are not in lock step and the divisions will keep causing a bigger split.

Senate Dems did cave, but not for the reason Democrats are saying. Forget the ACA extension; it’s fate was sealed when the GOP won both houses of Congress a year ago. To expect that Trump or Johnson would’ve negotiated an ACA extension in good faith is a delusional fantasy. They were clearly more willing to let kids starve and planes fall out of the sky than do that.

The better option here would’ve been to force the Senate GOP to cave to Trump, and end the filibuster. Then Dems could’ve at least said they tried to use what little power they have to stop the rise in health care costs. Now, the GOP can more easily claim that Dems shut down the government for record time, for absolutely no reason.

Trump reforms our complete society in his maga image, we get a losing vote on health care. What a fucking party.

  7. All the gains democrats made with progressives to win the elections last week were just flushed down the toilet.

  8. Schumer’s loser “centrist” heels will not lose any committee assignments or otherwise be punished by the loser “centrist” heel leadership. The Senate Democrats need progressive leadership and that means primarying out loser “centrist” heels from the Senate and blocking more loser “centrist” heels from joining the Senate (Janet Mills):

    • John Fetterman (2028)
    • Tim Kaine (2030)
    • Jeanne Shaheen (Retiring)
    • Dick Durbin (Retiring)
    • Maggie Hassan (2028)
    • Catherine Cortez Masto (2028)
    • Jacky Rosen (2030)
    • Angus King (2030)

This is exactly why a two party system should be abolished. The “moderates” in the DNC are more rightwing and obnoxious than most conservatives in the rest of the world

  10. I keep refreshing my feed, looking for an article that at least gives me some reasonable explanation for what these dumbasses did. It’s not coming. This was just pure, unadulterated failure.

  11. Two of the cave ins are retiring and the rest are not up for election next year. Among this group is the Minority Whip who’s fucking job is to keep something like this from happening. Either Schumer lined up safe picks to take the fall or he has no control of his party. Regardless he is spineless and weak. The younger Dems like AOC should spend now until midterm elections hammering to voters who crippled their Healthcare for nothing and who needs to go. If a blue wave is even still possible next year take these fossils along with any gains from the GOP.

In my view this was all really about the Democratic Party showing their supporters that they’ve a spine for the fight. That they can use whatever power they have as a minority power to stand up to the Trump regime, and the ACA subsidies seemed a reasonable issue to make this clear. And they failed. So sure, it might empower Trump, and it does nothing to fix the issue.

But the real damage here for the Democrats is eroding the confidence their voters have in their leadership. When you’re own voters are made at you, there is a lot of work to do as a party to rectify issues in your own house. Being seen as incapable by your supporters isn’t good politics and now they’ll need to show both leadership and system changes to their own voters to win back trust. And what a great way to piss away any momentum from last week.

  13. Starving your constituents for a month was hard but necessary… until you caved for nothing and made their sacrifice mean nothing. Good going dip

  14. It was and is a surrender. We’ve always known the Dem leaders are do-nothing cowards. This is exactly how they lost the confidence of so many voters during the last cycle.

At some point people need to stop interpreting dissatisfaction with these guys as “both sides.” Nobody is saying that Chick Schumer’s idea of governing people if he was in charge is “the same” as 47’s. But if they are going to do literally nothing to stop this (other than pointlessly starve people for 40 days only to fold) they are useless and must go.

When the Dems are in this role (opposition party) I look at it like the acab people. Sure, the cop that knows his colleagues are up to no go, but isn’t participating in is better than those that are participating. However, at some point he has to own that his actions are doing nothing but encouraging it to continue.

I just left the party. Registered independent. Not going to part of this traitorous group of bastards.

We just delivered the votes last week, and the Dems gave it all away for NOTHING.

It literally turns my stomach. The Republicans are drinking champagne again. — and worse, they now know that they can get away with anything. Fascism, there is no stopping it now.

    Traitorous bastards.

“Now is not the time for infighting”

“Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good”

    “Purity tests are not necessary”

    “Vote blue no matter who”

Words uttered by the sub for nearly a decade and now we have centralists dems that are all but MAGA minus the mean tweets and hat.

  18. And now everything is blamed on the Democrats, the SNAP crisis, the FAA crisis. The jobs report will finally be released, and if they don’t blame the Democrats for that, they will surely blame the next one on the Democrats. The Democrats who broke ranks are either retiring or don’t have an election in 2026, so I’m not buying the rage from Schumer and the Democratic party. And what did they get out of this, a promise that will be broken. I am so pissed at this party right now. They held pocket Aces, and folded to nothing.

  19. SpaceJesusIsHere on

Corporate Dems saw that standing up to Republicans led to an electoral sweep and new powerful progressives like Zorhan and immedietly decided to surrender because our leaders prefer to be a minority party with big donors over letting progressives have any shred of power to actually help Americans.

  20. The speech Bernie made was so well put and I agree with him. They should of held firm. I am on SNAP but without ACA subsides the people won’t be able to afford insurance. He has been the person that continuously fights for all Americans. We don’t deserve Bernie.

  21. The biggest advantage the Dems have had since 2020 has been utterly demolished.
The Dems who crossed to the otherside were likely paid out or took deals.

Remember their weakness when their 2028/2030 re-election campaigns kick off.

  22. When the stuff they were “promised” goes down in flames, their constituents should recall each and every one o them. Fool the Dems 8 or 10 times, shame on you. Fool them 100 times, shame on them. Morons.

  23. CombinationLivid8284 on

When will these idiots get it in their heads we aren’t in normal times?

Trump is actively breaking the law. Now is the time to stand up.

  24. It is a surrender and it’s a betrayal. If the shutdown ends like this, then we suffered for nothing. We get a lose-lose situation. Because democrats are weak and Schumer is a spineless worm

  25. Expulsion from the DNC for the 7. No resources, no contact, and you’ll be primaried when you’re up next. Send a message: unity until MAGA is dead.

  26. JeaniousSpelur on

I don’t believe it. There’s no serious civil war among Democrat elected officials. The leadership and Schumer allowed this. They chose the old senators in uncontested seats to be the ones to cross the line, so they can pretend they all intended to fight it out.

  27. ShowMeYourT_Ds on

I don’t vote republican. And I stopped voting democrat before the 2016 election.

    This is why.

They ain’t know how to do anything except current and say “next time”. They have problem campaigning on all the broken promises and half efforts they make though.

  28. I watched the Press conference the cave in democrats had last night, I thought of Regan’s quote “If you’re explaining, you’re losing.” That was a bad night for the Democratic party.

  29. Bunch of fucking pussies. I can’t believe we made progress, just for these assholes to give it away.

  30. CherryLongjump1989 on

Headline should be: Democrat Leaders allow millions of Americans to lose healthcare.

Trying to make the “civil war” the headline is burying the lede.

  31. Ok-Wealth-7322 on

And by “ending” the shutdown, the Dems are being blamed for the entire thing. I’ve already seen a slew of posts, articles, and comments saying that the Dems could have ended the shutdown at any time, and in their concession they’re the ones being blamed for voting to raise premiums.

I don’t know why the Democratic Party is so fucking stupid to have not seen this coming.

It never gets reported as “a few Democrats and every single Republican vote to fuck over Americans”, it’s always “Dems vote to fuck over Americans” or “Dems fail to protect Americans”.
