  1. Kim Davis. Please. Fucking go away forever now. I am done hearing about your sorry, pathetic self

  2. Wow, this is actually shocking and possibly a sign that the Supreme Court has some worry about backlash. After they overturned Roe vs Wade, some of them said same-sex marriage was next on their agenda to overturn. The fact they aren’t even going to hear it is great news.

    This shouldn’t be celebrated.

This should just be recognized as *normal.*

The SCOTUS recognizing peoples rights should just be the norm if our country wasn’t insane.

Good. It would have been absolutely ridiculous for them to even hear this, but I would not have put it past Alito and Thomas to seize the opportunity.

  5. I don’t care what you say, this absolutely huge, good news, a rarity these days! I don’t care if this is temporary, this is a blow to Project 2025! After the overturn of abortion rights, I was certain this was next on the chopping block. I’m just glad it’s safe for now.

  6. I’m surprised Roberts dissented. He’s normally a staunch supporter of stare decisis and won’t hesitate to vote with the liberal block on these cases if he feels that stare decisis compels him to. Barrett and Kavanaugh are the same- no surprise there. Gorsuch has shown SOME flexibility on LGBTQ+ issues- not that he isn’t evil or isn’t an enemy to LGBTQ+ people after all is said and done.

Thomas and Alito are evil, so no surprise there either.

That said, the conservatives who declined this likely did so for reasons of legal ideology. They are still evil and should be seen as a threat to LGBTQ+ people.

  7. “Instead, the court denied an appeal from Kim Davis, the former Kentucky county clerk who now faces hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages and legal fees for refusing to issue marriage licenses”

She hates marriage and can’t get over this because nobody wants to marry hate-filled, debt-filled woman who has a good track record of divorcing (3 or 4 times)

  8. They might overturn it in a future case but at least this awful person will have to pay all the fines she accumulated.

  9. Good try Kim Davis, now go to back to your hole and continue to brush your filthy sister-wife hair.

  10. But Abortion was worth revisiting. So they will revisit things based on their own agenda.

This 8-1 is the exact outcome I expected. We’re not out of the woods yet on this.

There was a Reddit post several months back with really good analysis on why this case was DOA (I’ll try to find it and add it in an edit). In short, Kim Davis’s argument is about as piss poor as possible. Not only was she acting in a public role as an agent of government operations – her individuality has nothing to do with this. She wasn’t just asking for the reversal of Obergefell, but her argument was shitting on principles on multiple Supreme Court cases. There was no logical chance in hell the Roberts Court was going to support her – they probably hate her.

This case only got so far because of financial backing – this isn’t winning the war, it was an opening salvo. Not only does it help the GOP with PR and optics (“See, we aren’t trying to kill gay marriage” and “I told you so, the Supreme Court isn’t acting with an unreasonable, political bias”), it gets the nonsense out of the and allows commentary to shape THE NEXT ATTEMPT.

Evangelicals aren’t done fighting gay marriage, they just took their weakest shot first to get it out of the way and build the next strike.

  12. Cynical me wonders if this is a strategy to try to put a wedge between LGB and T communities; “look, gays, we’ll protect your rights, just let us stomp on trans people!”

But honestly it’s probably just good news. Sucks to be you, Kim Davis.

  13. Oh shit, Roberts’ court only does the right thing just before they’re about to rule heavily in favor of something rightwing.

  14. So much doom and gloom in the world. This was something that many pundits predicted would fall.

So, next time Chicken Little comes running in, take a moment to breath.

Very happy for our many LGBTQIA friends out there. They deserve to be able to live life in peace.

  15. Good.

“Recognizing your right to exist is a violation of my right to want you to not exist.”

Is a stupid foundation for an argument.

Trans rights will be rolled back when the government re opens so you win some and lose some :/
